My pri 5 student stunned me with this question
if Amy:Daniel ratio for bouquets of flower is 4:5 and Daniel and Alice is 6:8
how would you express in the ratio Amy:Daniel :Alice
please help :)
thanks
Amy:Daniel: Alice
4 5
6 8
24 30
30 40
12 15 20
if you wan you can draw models but i am lazy.. i'll just tell you the steps
Amy: 4 units
D: 5 units
________________________
D:6 units
Alice: 8units
Comparing D on top and below, we know the LCM (lowest common multiple) is 30 therefore for the 5 units on top for D, you need to divide each unit into 6 parts to get 30. For Amy, you'll also need to divide each part into 6 = 24 parts
For the D at the bottom, to get 30, you'll need to divide each unit by 5. for each of Alice's 8 units, divide them into 5 parts also and u'll get 40 units
therefore the ratio is 24:30:40, in simplest form = 12:15:20
if Amy:Daniel ratio for bouquets of flower is 4:5 and Daniel and Alice is 6:8
how would you express in the ratio Amy:Daniel :Alice
Amy:Daniel:Alice
4:5:------------must x 6 to get 30, so that line all x 6
:6:8----------must x 5 to get 30, so that line all x5
The common thing here is 6 and 5, which is the comparison of daniel and alice
6x5=30(LCM)
so multiply the 4 by 6, and 8 by 5 on the 1st and 2nd line respectively
so,
4(6):5(6):
:6(5):8(5)
-----------------------
24:30:40
------------------
i tink need to be in simplest form, thus, divde 2 throughout, 12:15:20
I think you need to read up more on primary school questions. This is just a medium level primary school question.
