There’s a new fiber broadband player in town, and its name is WhizComms.
According to the company’s manifesto, to differentiate itself in this super-competitive home fiber broadband landscape, it will be providing “communications services at the lowest price, highest quality, and shortest contract.”
At the moment, WhizComms only has one product: a 1Gbps home fiber broadband plan. This is priced at $32/month with a 24-month contract or $36/month for a 12-month contract; and either plan includes an optical network router, as well as free delivery and installation at the customer’s home. There’s also a S$53.50 service activation fee.
Details about WhizComms’ backend are a bit scarce at the moment; but according to this FAQ, one of the plan’s benefit is “a consistent speed throughout the day even during peak hours”. I’ve asked WhizComms for more info, and was told that users should be able to get typical download/upload speeds of around 700 to 900Mbps.
To celebrate its launch and to announce its presence, WhizComms is giving away free 1Gbps home fiber broadband to the first 1,000 customers from today, November 1, 2016. The free plan lasts for three months from the date of installation, and it comes without any contractual obligations. In short, this isn’t a “sign up for 12 months, get 3 months free” kind of promo. For this promo, the activation fee is also waived.
To qualify for this promo, you do have to be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident and have a fiber-ready home that’s ready for its first fiber line (or an existing plan that’s due for renewal within the next 3 months).
This free 3-month 1Gbps plan promo is also given on a first-come-first-served basis. Sign up is done online, which means you better act fast if you’re interested.
Update, Nov 1, 6:20 PM: Added info on real-world speeds and the waiving of activation fee for the free 3-month promo plan.
Update, Nov 6, 1:20 PM: We were informed that the promo offer is almost all taken up.
