Reaching city end of this month. Appreciate any advice on lifestyle, working environment over there.
typically folks live outside of DC and commute into DC via metro .
Logging might be a bit difficult prepared to pay. Reason....there are always constant movement of people coming into DC to work for the federal govt. So investigate more on logging.
Weather -- is one of the area where you have a clear cut date for 4 season. The longerest wet weather i have ever experience. -- 6 days continuous., almost strike by lighting in the summer weather just like SG. moderate snow during winter. Spring is nice your spouse wil like it.
A rather diplomatics enviornment. Given the nature of the place itself, more formal. Most of the news will be adsorb by the hill.
You still need a Car.
travel to the bay for Eastern softshell crab....clams. coast is 2 hours drive. Atlantics is a great place. Like the bay, like the beach.
Have fun

Anyone in California? :)
I'm currently in Irvine, for a overseas Engineering posting for about 14 months! :) Hope to keep in contact with SGreans here, 'cos it seems like there's more Vietnamnese & Taiwan/China/Hongkong group over in Irvine!
Seems like there's less of a SG-group down in SoCal as compared to the SF/Bay Area?

Vito's in LA in the Marina Del Rey area and I'm in San Diego. Arapahoe's in San Bernadino county but he's leaving the area soon.
Enjoy your short stay.

Oooh I see. both of you are actually quite close to me!
Well being in Irvine, it's safe to stay but there's lesser things to do as compared to the cities like SD/SF/LA... so although I would say I enjoyed it thus far, I've been trying to find things to do around my area (short of going out to the other cities).
What is the rough temperatures to expect in the spring/summer period?

Summers are hot. Temps can go into the 100s (F). Spring is nice. T-shirts and shorts weather. Just know that it's always fire season here in SoCal.
How long have you been here? There's lots of shopping in Irvine. You're very close to Knott's, Disney and other attractions. There's one place you should check out in Anaheim - Medieval Knights. It's a whole different dining experience.

Woah I see. That's good to know. So I guess I shouldn't really hold on to plans for getting a jacket here after all! haha.
Been here for 3 months already! But shopping is not really my thing...I'm looking for more outdoor things to do! :)

You're lucky. It's been a warm winter so far. We still have Feb and March so don't write off buying a coat just yet.
If you can get your hands on a free publication called 101 Things to do in ......, it's pretty informative. We have one for San Diego and I'm certain they put one out for the LA area. Good luck.
Been in San Diego for a month, and I have another 4 to go.

I am surprised this thread lasted so long. All the SGians I met overseas said one thing "I avoid other SGians".
No I don't. How many you've met said that and in how many countries?
