About 60 students from the Singapore Management University found out just how much hard work goes into cleaning public toilets.
A group of seven first-year students came up with a project called Royal Flush, as part of a Leadership and Teambuilding course.
Student Fu Meibao, is one of the team members.
"We came up with this idea of having a toilet cleanliness week. It will be more meaningful to promote this awareness on good toilet etiquette. Basically we try to get more volunteers to clean the toilet bowls as well. So you'll be able to appreciate the cleaners better. "
This real-life learning took place at several of the school's men's and women's toilets at the Concourse Building along Victoria Street.
Many who volunteered, decided to take part because it was an opportunity to try something different.
But even after getting some training from the school's full-time cleaners, Sahimi, who's a Business undergraduate, agree it's not as simple as it looks.
"There's techniques to rinse, clean, knowing which steps to clean first. I think some things are common sense, some things are not - like which chemicals to use first, and safety issues. Like the first toilet that we cleaned, the floor was very slippery, and we almost slipped and fell. So these are one of the things you really have to get the right mixture of detergent and the water itself."
Besides learning life skills, the students will be graded on the overall project, which includes a presentation.
The score will count towards their first year grades.
