Singapore launches LOO campaign
A "bloo-print" that hopes to take Singapore's toilet cleanliness and hygiene standards up a few notches.
That's the mission of the Restroom Association of Singapore when it launched the "Let's Observe Ourselves" or LOO campaign.
The campaign focuses on an all-encompassing approach where various stakeholders including toilet owners, operators, cleaners, contractors and users will join hands to tackle the toilet issue.
At the launch of the campaign, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Amy Khor says toilet owners and operators need to adjust their mindsets in maintaining good public toilet standards.
This will augur well for Singapore's image as the republic hosts a series of international events, including the Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
Dr Khor also pointed to the need to improve the welfare and pay of toilet cleaners.
She said that many toilet owners and operators have often chosen cheap sourcing instead of best sourcing.
This has resulted in low paying jobs for cleaners, and the lack of good quality workers to perform the tasks.
On their part, the Restroom Association of Singapore is collaborating with the World Toilet College to conduct courses for cleaners to enhance their job performance and change public perception of the profession.
