No. That will further deprive more of our fellow citizens of job opportunities. Furthermore, cleaners in Singapore receive extremely low wages. I'm always Pro-Job Creation - but solely for Singapore Citizens.Originally posted by gorby107:The school can ask us the students to clean the toliets and no need to hire those cleaners as they can save on costs and used on other things
But not a lot of people want to do this type of low-class and low-pay job in the last few years but luckily what you said the Pro-Job Creation encourage them to take up those jobs by have their pay higher and using newer technology. But don't know Singaporeans will accept it a not??? We need to change our mindset on thatOriginally posted by SBS3688Y:No. That will further deprive more of our fellow citizens of job opportunities. The market is so bad nowadays; definitely can get our fellow citizens to take up these jobs; esp the old people. some are penniless and would be grateful for being offered such jobs. Besides, they can kill time while earning money, which's better than sitting idle the whole day and risk becoming senile faster.Originally posted by gorby107:But not a lot of people want to do this type of low-class and low-pay job in the last few years but luckily what you said the Pro-Job Creation encourage them to take up those jobs by have their pay higher and using newer technology. Yup I agree with you. Singaporeans need to venture more for jobs. But if they don't want to work those kind of jobs, the government need to raise the pay for those kind of jobs as it is a tiring job, long-hour and low pay. So not a lot of people not willing to take the jobOriginally posted by SBS3688Y:The market is so bad nowadays; definitely can get our fellow citizens to take up these jobs; esp the old people. some are penniless and would be grateful for being offered such jobs. I always believe employers in Singapore ought to change their mindset being over-dependent on foreign workers, but the government ought to make the first steps in some areas such as changing of some policies, etc..
I hope to see more Singapore citizens working as cleaners, dish-collectors, grass cutters, manual labourers, construction workers, etc... Perhaps can begin by recruiting ex-convicts by giving them another chance - Support the "Yellow Ribbon" project.

Very very very unfortunately this is the case in my school now.Originally posted by 105090:theres some stupid detention programme by my school last time.. those ppl who were naughty or late for school were forced to do CWO such as clean windows, to the extent of cleaning toilets.
such an act is condemned as it is a very bad excuse to let the cleaners slack and waste resources like wages and man-hours.
