budget studio accommodation ?

  Hi Singaporean, I'm moving to SG to work, went through all those big names like propertyguru or itproperty etc., and looks like all accomodations in SG are posted by individuals (owners or agents) ? I wonder if there're any budget studio (e.g., less than $500 per week or so) let by professional companys ? So apprecaited if anybody could give me some tips. Thanks a lot ...

  PS: properties let by agents are ok, but they just keep listing those outdated ones and really..really confused me, make me quite difficult to trust them anymore . 

   -- I am a china chinese and finish all my education (bsc-phd) in many countries, and like to start my new adventure in sg, so i'd like to live around locals and experience the real sg culture, but i heard from my china friends that sg gov forbits foreigners to live among the locals, is it right ?
