  GrabTaxi Singapore launches $2.8M fund for driver welfare

  GrabTaxi Singapore announced today the launch of its Provident Fund (GPF), a S$3.5 million (US$2.79 million) welfare fund set up for taxi drivers who are active and have maintained high service standards. The fund comes directly out of the investments that GrabTaxi received in the last 14 months, totaling US$340 million. It also confirms past claims made by the company’s Malaysia general manager Adelene Foo that the firm would earmark funds for driver welfare.

  “Driver welfare has always been a key focus for us and we understand what our drivers truly need,” says Lim Kell Jay, general manager for GrabTaxi Singapore. “The GrabTaxi Provident Fund allows us to set aside enough money to support our drivers […] The fund covers medical costs, accident cover[age], and crisis support to give our drivers peace of mind and reaffirm our commitment to their well-being.”

  GrabTaxi will deposit S$300 (US$240) into the fund every month for each driver that fulfills the service and usage criteria. This amounts to a total of S$3,600 (US$2,879) per driver that GrabTaxi sets aside every year for their use. Drivers just need to provide the relevant receipts and documents to GrabTaxi to make the claim except in the case of crisis support, when no documentation is required.

  Launched in October 2013 in Singapore, GrabTaxi is one of the largest third-party booking apps in Singapore. The mobile app offers taxi drivers an efficient method to get passengers and reduce empty cruising, which enables taxi drivers to increase their income. With over 60,000 drivers across the region, GrabTaxi says it plans to expand its driver network with the goal of becoming the largest consolidated taxi fleet in Singapore this year. There are currently six GrabTaxi bookings per second throughout the region, according to the firm. GrabTaxi claims more than 620,000 people use the app at least once a month in Southeast Asia.

  “This is just the start for us as we continue to grow our network in Singapore,” Kell Jay says. “We’re fully aware that our drivers work hard and long hours, so this fund will provide a great opportunity for us to say a big thank you for their efforts.”

  Launching – Passenger Broadcasting System (Android Trial Period)

  Network Uncle a networking application that is embedded with a Passenger Broadcasting System. This Passenger Broadcasting System will be our first phrase, it is not created to compete against other operator in the market, in fact, it complement other operators in the market to a more holistic passenger-taxi relationship.

  Network Uncle could be downloaded for free (search network uncle). As of now, only the Android version is available. This application is an application for passenger to ply for a taxi on the road. With a click of a button, the position of the passenger will be broadcast to taxi within the vicinity. The request  will be reflected on the taxi radar like interface and be acknowledge by available taxi answering to the request. All within minutes. And is that simple! No third party matching system within to prolong the process.

  Consumer needs to register with the application. At $2 per month, consumer will be able to enjoy arrays of services that Network Uncle will be injecting in phrases. From the start, consumer can enjoyed unlimited usage on the Passenger Broadcasting System. Consumer has the option of not joining the network but would like to use the service of the broadcasting system may do so. At $10 per top up, the broadcasting system will be release for your usage. Taxi request will be charged at 20 cents per activation. No other charges when you board the taxi.

  We seek your kind understanding that this system required time for the taxi community to join the network. Hence, we will be launching the application as a free trial for the time being. As the passenger-taxi relationship connection within our application happens in minutes, we urged for your social responsibility, only to activate “Request Taxi” at your pick up site.

  10 cdg calls, can take, why not, but 5 calls surely very far away from yr current location, you want to take ar?? I think if Cdg calls can provide matching like Grabtaxis, whereby the caller is near, it can be good. But then, at the end of the day, from a busines perspective, both call system serve the same boss. They will not go bother so much.

  Easy lah...morning peak hour 4 to 5 np. my 10 excludes weekends. Peak hour I dun sweep...only current calls

  Far I also take but see traffic condition. Near near traffic condition bad I dun take. take call is the only way to upped income. Tis I learnt from my sifu. .day driver 15 to 20 calls...revenue 3 xx ....show me mdt print out. .....He uses soon to arrive function. ....one call after another.......road has to be very familiar

  Of course taking calls will up your income, but it is a stress too, so it is up to individual to ply their business, and in taxi driving, there is actually no such thing as SIFU, it is more of a lau jiao (some are lan jiao hor) and newbies. Each driver have it own way of driving, no wrong, no right, as long as he or she can make a living out of it, stay healthy and able to have time with family or friends, how he or she drive, is pefectly ok, after 3 months on the road, most are already Sifu, which apply in china and hk, only Singapore call TD.. Uncle. Some takes calls all the way, applied STC, Some sweep all the way, and some have both side of the world on whoever come first, The keys and skill in taxi driving is not about calls and sweep when there are paxs, it is about what to do and where to go when there are no pax, no calls and no morale to drive further.

  knn, $30 net per shift, how much call to take?? Uncle hate stress one hor, once stress, sure go back quarrel with aunty liao...siao lian eh...mai take all the calls hor, leave some for lau uncle me hor..limpek slowly go in, knn, alway younger ones hijacked

  Ya lor, limpek old already, hand slow mah, actually taxi companies and LTA said taxi drivers can drive until 75yo, it must therefore also provide Pioneer Package Calls for us mah, otherwise how to match with those 30s++ siao driver... By the time limpek read the location and road name, finger going up only, call gone liao..then sometime see wrongly go press, thot limpek very fast, but kenna far far ulu ulu calls where nobody will take one...

  We have given ComfortDelGro taxi booking app a complete makeover. The revamped app, which is available for both iPhone and Android, has a brand new look (as below) as well as new and enhanced features.

  One of its new features is the RATE YOUR DRIVER. Customers can rate the drivers' service from 1 to 5 stars and leave their comment if they wish to. 

  For customers who have used the new apps and rated our drivers, 85% of them have rated our drivers 4 stars and above.  Of this, 61% has awarded 5 stars rating to drivers who has provided excellent service.

  So 15% rate below 4...that is bad. I would say, this is BS (bullshit), pax rate taxis is not merely base on driver, be it a very handsome and macho driver, the vehicle conditon, the company taxi seats, the company calls timming/system are critical too.

  I sometime on call, went into condo to pang sai first hor, drive taxis cannot look at pax face one lah, if keep looking at face...sure get lots of guessing feeling like pax buay song or pax not happy, just drive, treat them like parcel with a label stated, HANDLE WITH CARE, then you can drive more happily. Pax better dun rate us, most cdg gold award drivers end up never drive for them forever
