Esplanade will present the 3rd edition of A Tapestry of Sacred Music from 15-17 April 2011. This 3-day festival of both ticketed and free performances will showcase an array of musical expressions found in the diverse cultural and spiritual heritages spanning Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
For the festival opening, we will be having a Naga Puja ceremony at 6pm at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, followed by Tibetan Sacred Music by the Jamchen Lhakhang Monastery, Nepal and we would like all of you to join us. Highlights also include the Music of the Sufis by the Al Kindi Ensemble from Syria, the chimes of traditional Thai Piphat ceremonial music, the enthralling music of the Bauls from India and more.
We hope for this festival to be a “meeting of civilisations”, through the bringing together of Music that transcends boundaries, ethnicity, race and religion, and put us in touch with our shared humanity. It seeks to inspire and enlighten, to give audiences a “heart-opening” experience that would serve something higher than the usual popular entertainment.
