Red Cross is a recognized humanitarian relief organization. In any disaster, one of the first NGOs they let in will be the Red Cross. Don't forget they have Japan Red Cross in the country itself.
All funds we channel to any Red Cross worldwide will reach Red Cross Japan.
See this link http://www.handsontokyo.org/en/ways_to_give/japan_earthquake_and_tsunami
HandsOn Tokyo is more a civilian organization. I think they can help with after-aftermath (e.g. reconstruction and re-building), but not immediate aftermath which is now.
i see. set. red cross then. :)

I've called Tzuchi. Those who are interested to donate through TzuChi. Please send cheque dated 18 March as their donation license starts from tomorrow 18 March. 2011. Just indicate for Japan Disaster 2011. Send to the following address :
9 Elias Road
Singapore 519937
I think it is good to donate through them as they have people directly helping the Japanese who are affected by the disasters.
Yes, I read that Tzu Chi has already sent off shipments of relief supplies from Taiwan to Japan.
Thanks for the information on where to send the cheques, and about how to date them.
I am donating to red cross.

I assume it was standing. The caption for that picture was "A religious statue stands amongst debris in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, on Monday." Everything is in such chaos, don't think anyone will think of setting the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva statue upright.
Yes I think so.... In Otsuchi, only a supermarket and Buddhist temple was left standing. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/14/uk-japan-quake-scene-idUSLNE72D02Q20110314
The Dao Ji Buddhist temple in Minamisanriku also survived the Tsunami and offered refuge for some of the people

Heard from news that everything was put on hold due to too many countries helping out in food and clothing. Airport jam up.
it is foundation shaking moments for Japanese. as Japan always pride themselves on the technology cutting edge. perhaps it is a wake up call for us too, no matter how technology advance. we cannot supercede Mother Nature. pls offer a prayer for the dead and those who lost their loved ones that healing and restoration will come quickly through the Grace of triple gems.

Each time I wrote a comment, I deleted it for it felt so trivial and inadequate,
what remains is the glory of human spirit against defeat
But the agony of suffering does'nt really goes, does it ?
Makes the three marks of existence is ever more poignant, is'nt it?
its through agony that one is enlightened in spirit
don't donate to Red Cross.......................
families of 9/11 victims had to sue Red Cross to get money that were donated to them...............
Red Cross CEO has annual salary of over USD600,000..........................
nvm la, donated already.
can donate others, donate others. still, they are fastest to reach there is also a pro. it's ur sincerity in helping that count.
wow!
According to Science Daily, the sounds of Japan's 9.0-magnitude quake "have been accelerated 16 times so that they can be audible to human ears." The red and yellow colors on the spectogram represent the most intense parts of the quake. You can also listen to the first and second aftershock on the LIDO site.

Police officers wore protective suits as they drove near the nuclear plant.
The Japanese media have dubbed the elite squad of 180 technicians the "Samurai Warriors" and even the "Nuclear Ninjas" as they try to save their country.
One man, having already been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation, told his wife: "Please continue to live well, I cannot be home for a while."
While the young daughter of one of the workers wrote on Twitter: "My dad went to the nuclear plant. I have never heard my mother cry so hard."
She begged: "Please dad, come back alive."
Nuclear experts have said the men are on a suicide mission and that not even their airtight suits can save them from contamination.
And if they survive, they will face a lifetime of health problems.
The group, whose identities remain a mystery, stayed at the plant after 700 of their colleagues fled when radiation levels peaked at lethal levels.
Of those who decided to stay, five are known to have already died. A further two are missing and at least 21 others have been injured.
The seriously damaged Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.
Their bravery is reminiscent of the three men who volunteered to swim to their deaths to save Russia during the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
Engineer Alexei Ananenko and soldiers Valeri Bezpalov and Boris Baranov suited up in scuba-gear and swam through the radioactive waters of the flooded chamber to release the gate valve and allow the trapped water to drain out.
Many firemen and rescue workers also died from radioactive contamination after rushing to the scene to help despite knowing the risks.
A former worker at Chernobyl said: "The general came and said: 'I would rather have 2,000 people contaminated if it lets 200 million people live.'
"We were sent to work at the reactor, to clean up the waste.
