Not in the physical sense, but in the case of our historical Buddha Shakyamuni.
Another Buddha, such as Amitabha in the Western Paradise, won't their teachings coincide, contradict and clash as a result. I feel that at any given time, one Buddha's teaching is suffice.
you know what I mean?
There cannot be 2 Buddhas teaching together in this world.
However, there are countless Buddhas now in other worlds. Amitabha is in another world.
Yes there cannot be 2 Buddhas to appear at the same time, just like there can never be 2 PM's or 2 kings in a country.
What TS mean is that got Lord Buddha (historical buddha) teachings and Amitabha's teachings at the same time, will there be a conflict or contradiction? to go to Pureland, followers need to recite his name and Shakyamuni Buddha taught the dhamma, which is different from reciting Buddha's name.
since both are more into Pali canon, we try to be more tolerance and fairly speaking. i think in Sanskrit canon, other world's Buddha(s) can also manifest into our world to "support" our Buddha when preaching the Dharma. they can manifest as supporting roles, but not as a Main role of a Dharma turning Buddha, which have to undergo the actual process of reborning as a human, prince, renoucing, attain enlightened etc.
This threefold world is still under the care of Shakyamuni Buddha until the next Maitreya Buddha come and take over. Amitabha is taking care of the Dharma universe which is in a much wider scope, until Guan Yin bodhisattva take over.
to me, Buddha recitation is quite like reciting Buddho...just with a bit more of bodhicitta/metta and Right aspiration(Noble8FoldPath).
At this time, however, we can make an effort to train our hearts; trying to cultivate mindfulness whether standing, walking, sitting or lying down. Whatever our activity, be it drinking, thinking or talking, we have mindfulness, that is, clear recollection. Alternatively, we can establish the recitation of a mantra - 'Buddho', 'Dhammo' or 'Sangho' - to govern and guide our mind. Whether standing, walking, seated or reclining, we establish this internal recitation of 'Buddho' to govern the minds tendency towards distraction and diversity as it wanders about in the past and the future, continually proliferating.
Buddho' means 'One who is awakened to the truth'. After the Buddha's enlightenment, then due to the power of his Great Compassion, rather than dwelling alone in the bliss of liberation, He went forth with loving kindness to teach the multitude, beginning with Venerable Anna Kondanna, the first of the Savaka Sangha. This realisation and transmission of the Dhamma continues through our teacher and guide in the practice, Venerable Ajahn Chah, right into the present. I believe that if we diligently apply ourselves to his teaching, then peace and happiness will arise in our lives.
~ Venerable Ajahn Anan Akincanohttp://www.what-buddha-taught.net/Books5/Ajahn_Anand_Akincano_Seeking_Buddho.htm
if we read the bio of Ajahn Mun. Ajahn Mun(a Theravadin) ever practiced repeating the word buddho, the recollection of the Buddha.
When Ãcariya Mun first began practicing vipassanã at Ãcariya SaoÂ’s center, he meditated constantly, internally repeating the word “buddho”, the recollection of the Buddha, as he preferred this preparatory Dhamma theme above all others. In the beginning, he failed to experience the degree of calm and happiness that he expected, which caused him to doubt whether he was practicing correctly. Despite his doubt he didnÂ’t flag in his persistent use of the word “buddho”, and eventually his heart developed a certain measure of calm.

the prince asks who the wise old man is in the illusion ....the illusion answers that it is the prince himself..."I am You".
one is the prince, another is the buddha..
the concurrent enlightenment when one seeks after truth becomes timeless

A Buddha is born, a thousand Buddhas support.

Historically and archaeology finding reveal that there is only ONE BUDDHA in this world which is Shayamuni Buddha.
However, when you enter the realm of faith, Shayamuni Buddha did preach about other buddha such as Amitabha and Medicine Master living in others part of the universe. Is it a figurative, symbolic or actual existence, human is very subjective. Current science is unable to prove it except when one step into realm of faith.
On the other hand, we can testify to Buddha teaching on meditation through scientific finding on how a person brain wave, emotion and well being is better off through the practice.
Finally, when come to realm of faith, perhaps individual experience on the answer to prayer and spirtual encounter can be consider as part of the unscientific supporting prove of their existence.
If you take time, to read Lotus Sutra chpter 11, you will notice it is possible for the Buddha to gather in one place. However, they maybe playing a supporting role to acknowledge Shayamuni teaching.
In term of teaching, all the Buddhas will be mindful of Lotus Sutra because it open the door for sentient being to understand their Buddha nature.
