Following the advice of Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche after the hospital stay in Singapore, Khenrinpoche Lama Lhundrup came home to Kopan on Wednesday 26th January 2011. Khenrinpoche had feeding tube (PEG tube) inserted in his stomach, and due to the good nutrition Khenrinpoche is now receiving he has put on a bit more weight.
On Lama Zopa Rinpoche's advice, Khenrinpoche started treatment with Tibetan medicine on the 28th January under the supervision of one of His Holiness Tibetan doctors. Khenrinpoche is visited every day by a Trainee Tibetan Doctor who checks Khenrinpoche’s health and response to the medicine and reports back to the supervising Tibetan Doctor.Khenrinpoche is also in contact with the Director of the Kathmandu Teaching Hospital who is a Gastric Specialist and Surgeon.
Khenrinpoche’s day-to-day needs and medical care are being provided by his two attendants and a Palliative Care nurse, one of his ‘western’ students.Dagri Rinpoche and Khadro-la arrived on the 5th of February. They have been visiting Khenrinpoche, reciting mantras and performing pujas for his health and long life. Khenrinpoche has also received blessed substances from many holy beings such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
Thanks to the good care, the nutritious food and the many prayers of holy beings and students around the world, he is feeling much better and stronger and has more energy. The usual symptoms of stomach cancer are currently well controlled and he is alert, up and about, reciting prayers, doing circumambulations of holy objects and getting regular exercise. Khenrinpoche is semi-retreat now and on the advice of doctors, is not currently seeing visitors.
All of us at Kopan Monastery would like to thank the many, many people who have sent emails, letters, gifts and suggestions for Khenrinpoche’s health and long life. Unfortunately due to the vast number of messages, we are unable to give individual replies but please know that your kind thoughts are appreciated and that Khenrinpoche is aware of all of your best wishes.
