We will be all fated and cannot change our lifeAnyway, does the End of World really matters? Shouldn't we spend more time working on ourselves to improve the quality of life and those of others, instead of pondering over Earth's final day? It is like people coming to fortune telling and requesting to know when are they going to die.
As the chinese expression, human life is like a drama. We are so caught by the emotional happening in the drama that cause our suffering. What does 'death' mean? Merely opening of a new chapter.
Ironically, human are so absorbed in this new chapter, just because they have failed to bring out the true potential in their old chapter, only to see themselves screwing up the new chapter, and awaits a newer chapter down the road.

Okie. but, normally, a few words to explain such a deep questions is bit difficult, but try ah.
1) There's no real begining of universe. universes expand and later will collapse. Then new one will be born again in ever lasting cycles. Like we have day and night, 4 seasons and of coz Rebirth.
2) Becoz of 3 posions(greed, hatred and folly). You(if male) exist becoz you attached to your mother and dislike you father in your previous life. If you are female normally, you are attracted to you father and jealous of mother. Or either, you come to collect or repay debts which you own in previous life.
That's why children nowaday when finish collecting their depts from their parent, they leave them in the folk homes, no longer care about them.
3) in a long process. Earth is a big pieces of solid rock. And will take thousand and millions of years to create and break-down. Maybe Sun's hydrogen is used up. before exploding, it first expand. then Earth will feel extreme hotness for thousands of years. ice will melt and earth will be flooded to maxium. Then when Sun collapse, there be a rush of typhoon wind so strong it break-down the already weakened earth.
However by then we, living things will already be reborn in the formless heavenly realms.

If that is so, I don't see God to be that powerful at all since God(s) and Buddha(s) still have to overpower the Law. 1) Let's move things a bit backwards. How do you explain the existence of all elements that make up the universe and the earth? Do they all along exist already (in the universe)? [this may be a bit tougher than the second ques]
2) How do you explain the high degree of design and order in the universe, complex order in cosmological, stellar, planetary, chemical and biological systems and the way how the laws of nature work? Because of big bang? [this may be a bit less tougher to answer]
I hope you don't get the wrong meaning. I just want to know how buddhism answer these questions.

first, i think we need to understand the idea of all-powerful and all-knowing. Buddhism wants you to understand things. That say God might be your Father, but Buddha is like a Mentor/teacher. Everyone need a teacher, even a Father.Originally posted by happyharvest:If that is so, I don't see God to be that powerful at all since God(s) and Buddha(s) still have to overpower the Law. For me, God is all-powerful, all-knowing, soverign, and so on. If we have to take care of God (for example feed him/her, clean him/her....) and/or if God still have to overcome the Law instead of creating the Law and not bounded by the law and taking care of us, then I would rather not worship that God(s).
No offence pls, cos just airing some of my views.

Agreed, but the main teaching of the 'End of the World' in Buddhism is an important teaching in Impermanence, the 4 evolutions of planet and material forms: Formation, Existence, Destruction and Void, it is not meant to be an apocalyptic teaching warning us of our impending doom. In fact the end of our universe is still far and not something to worry about.Originally posted by Yunhaier:Anyway, does the End of World really matters? properly we might want to see God as the Law or Tao itself and not a heavenly Being per se.
In Buddhism, there's no way for a Being to be All-powerful unless one become All-knowing. You work with law of cause and effect to be All-powerful. Buddha(s) are said to be All-knowing. If one is All-powerful, One can just liberate us immediately. Yet there're still suffering in this World.
Philosophically you can't have All powerful, as it is One who can defeat oneself that is truly Omnipotence. Or the greatest enemy is not other but Oneself. As being All powerful yet cannot even admit being a loser, nullify the meaning of omnipotent. yeah?
Knowing this that there's no two sides in everything, including omniscienism itself, non is it differ from ignorance, transcend even omnipotenism, is True knowing of Buddha's Omniscience.
hence omniscienism negates omnipotenism.
But yet again, Omniscience is not to defeat yourself either (as that will become suicide which is rejected by Omniscience).

with a 'scientific' mind, both queries can be anwsered in the Abhidhamma Sutta .
In the cosmos, there are six permanent things or ultimate realities (Paramathas). They are the space, units of mind and four basic abstract elements (or matter) viz, units of abstract earth, abstract waters, abstract air and abstract heat.
Everything in this cosmos is subject to the force of birth. existence and death and dependent origination or kamma. The units of mind are no exception.
http://www.btinternet.com/~maunglwin/articles/cosmos1.htm#cosmos
if look at all material/form things, they are all combinations of these elements.
Basic Abstract Elements Characteristics
(1) Abstract earth (pathavi) To harden and to soften
(2) Abstract water (apo) To flow and to paste
(3) Abstract Air (vayo) To expand and to contract
(4) Abstract heat (tejo) To heat and to cool
The four basic abstract elements should not be mistaken as the ordinary earth, water, heat and wind. They are energies.
However if you think one have a 'philosophical mind', then Buddha will need to use the Shurangama Sutra to explain.

To sum up, Buddhism does not believe in the notion of a Personal God.
"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity" Albert Einstein
There is also a few interesting accounts in which Buddha spoke to the Maha Brahma, highest Brahma in our universe who claim to be eternal, omnipotent Creator, all-knowing, all-mighty and so on: http://buddhism.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=141185 . Buddha has eventually refuted his claims and converted him into taking refuge in the Three Treasures.

Although Buddha or an Arhant still has karma - he still falls ill occasionally (although Buddha's karmic result is much lighter than us'), and so on, just like any other being in the world would have, however he no longer creates any more karma after his Enlightenment.

Come and See the Results Immediately
According to this religion we can see the results of most of our good and bad actions within this very lifetime. Heavenly bliss or Nirvanic bliss can also be experienced within this very life time. You donÂ’t have to wait until you die.
This is why the Buddha always welcomed people to come and observe His way of teaching; not to come and believe it all at once. He actually advised people on how to choose a proper religion, by considering, analysing and investigating it in various ways without accepting anything through emotion or blind faith. Of course all religions promote faith.
But faith in Buddhism is not a surrender to the unknown; it is not submission to fear and punishment. Buddhist faith is the courageous acceptance of what one has found out through careful observation and analytical investigation. This is why Buddhism is called a doctrine of analysis. This religion contains a profoundly scientific and psychological analysis of mind and matter which many great modern thinkers have admired.
Universal Laws
To those who talked about the first cause of this world, the Buddha responded by saying that it is impossible to find a first cause since everything is changing, interdependent and conditioned by other things. Something that acts as the cause in the present may become the effect in the future. Later that same effect may again become the cause. Such phenomenon continues ad infinitum. It is called the universal law of Anicca or impermanency.
With regard to the origin of the world itself, the Buddha did not claim it was the property of Buddhism or that existing world systems and living things were controlled according to the Buddhist Order, but by universal law or natural phenomenon. Man was simply to accept his position in the world and regard himself and all things, animate and inanimate, as a compound.
According to the scholar Dr. Rhys Davids, “in each individual, without any exception, the relation of its component parts to one another is ever changing, so that it is never the same for two consecutive moments. It follows that no sooner has separateness begun than dissolution, disintegration, also begins; there can be no individuality without a putting together; there can be no putting together without a becoming; there can be no becoming without a becoming different; and there can be no becoming different without dissolution, a passing away which sooner or later will become inevitably complete".
The Buddha was the teacher who discovered the real nature of the universal cosmic law and who advised people to live in accordance with this law, such as going against nature, and leading an immoral life, must be ready to face the consequences. It is possible to escape from the reactions of such cosmic laws simply by praying to god, because this universal law is unbiased. Yet the Buddha taught us how to stop the reactions of certain bad practices by doing more and more good deeds, by training the mind and eradicating evils thoughts from the mind. After violation the cosmic order of the universal law there is no other method to get rid of the reaction except by co-operating and conforming with the same cosmic law.

If karma is not fate or predestination, then what is it? Let us look at the term itself. Karma means action, means "to do". Immediately we have an indication that the real meaning of karma is not fate because karma is action. It is dynamic. But it is more than simply action because it is not mechanical action. It is not unconscious or involuntary action. It is intentional, conscious, deliberate, wilful action. How is it that this intentional, wilful action conditions or determines our situation? It is because every action must have a reaction, an effect. This truth has been expressed in regard to the physical universe by the great physicist Newton who formulated the law which states that every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. In the moral sphere of conscious actions, we have a counterpart to the physical law of action and reaction, the law that every intentional, wilful action must have its effect. This is why we sometimes speak either of Karma-Vipaka, intentional action and its ripened effect, or we speak of Karma-Phala, intentional action and its fruit. It is when we speak of intentional action together with its effect or fruit that we speak of the Law of Karma.
