Degree holders 'most vulnerable' to retrenchment

In the last two years, degree holders here have found themselves the most vulnerable to losing their jobs, among all qualification groups.
Since 2011, their share of residents made redundant was also disproportionately higher than their share of all resident workers.
Experts suggested three reasons for this - jobs lost in restructuring tending to be held by graduates, greater demand for non-academic skills, and substitution by skilled foreign labour.
"As graduates become more available, it brings about more friction in the job-matching process," said SIM University economist Randolph Tan. "Many graduates think that getting a degree is a pinnacle of achievement, but what they don't realise is that the workplace demands much more of them."

Not only degree holders, as long as you are sg citizens and in job not mainly for churning big bucks you (grads and non grads) are most vulnerable. This is on for many years liao and it gets worse when lee hsien loong brings in influx of foreigners to fight for rice bowls with sg citizens

Even in third world country like vietnam they put into action to protect their own citizens. A neighbour of mine worked in Vietnam was asked to leave cos they want give job to local.

In 2000, 1 in 4 holds a degree. But now, 1 in 2 holds one. Graduates are now taking a longer time to find full-time employment. Should one still go for the paper chase?

u throw one stone at the street, it will hit a graduate, bounce and hit another 3 more graduates, roll on the floor and make another graduate trip and roll a little more and gets kicked by yet another graduate
and later be swept away by a, GASP!, graduate too!
