Kudos to UWEEI!
"A 75% payout from the management is a good offer compared to the initial 10% first offered to us" said the members of a non-unionised company who have just received their retrenchment payout.
UWEEI first came to know about the retrenchment when our DSHQ member approached us to help her and 10 other colleagues to speak with the management on their package. The union upon hearing the members' plight immediately took up their case. UWEEI met the 11 members over several occasions, always at night after they knocked off from work, to gather documentary proof and evidence. The case was also referred to Ministry of Manpower and after several rounds of conciliation at MOM, the company finally agreed to pay a higher quantum to the members! what a joy to both the union and workers!
Of course, the union didnt just stop there. On the workers' last day, UWEEI also arranged for e2i to come down to company to brief them on their career options and sign them up for employability camps, to ensure they secure good jobs after today.
And with that, we wish them all the best in their future endeavours!
