The labour movement yesterday called for the re-employment age to be extended from 65 to 67 to keep older workers on the job, as the resident employment rate reached a new high, driven by strong job creation and a higher number of female and older workers in the workforce.
Based on an NTUC survey of 118 unionised companies conducted between July and September, about three in four companies do not cut the pay of older workers. This makes the case for the re-employment age to be raised, especially amid the tight labour market, the NTUC argued.
"Given the generally smooth outcome, I hope the tripartite partners would consider further enhancing the upper end of the legally mandated re-employment age from 65 to 67," said NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How.
"This will not only enable more older workers to earn income for more years, but would also help companies meet the challenges of a tight labour market and reduce reliance on foreign labour," he added.
Observers agreed with the NTUC's suggestion, citing the shortage of workers in some sectors and Singaporeans' higher life expectancy, but they felt it may also cost employers too.
"They need to look more at re-designing jobs for an ageing workforce," said Singapore National Employers Federation Executive Director Koh Juan Kiat. He added that firms have to be prepared to invest in re-training and upgrading for older workers.
te bigest bad many people pissed is the CPF withdrawal tagging to retirement age. else if you wanna retired at 10 years old, or if you wanna continue working even if retirement age peaks at 80yo, why not?
china laoquaybu can work even when they are 80 yp as prostitute
Not everyone is healthy enough to work until 67. For example Huang Wenyong.
no telling you to chio work siao even after retiremnt or 55. but if you really no more burden, then work to stay active. get some income spedn as you wish.
might as well dun have retirement age. all work until die.
No doubts about it, increase to 70 even better.
Up to individual to stay employed, buttttttt never increase the CPF draw down age.

i think the gamen are doing it so that legally if you are under the retirement age employers can still employ yu. last time is like if you over the retriement age they dont employ you - that's legally. so for thos ewho still wanna work after 55 60 65 still can - as loing as the pass the minimum medical checkup requirement suited for the job.
but i think the CPG withdrawal age should be separate from the retriement age. i know last time age 55 can withdraw half, the remainder moved to retirement account. now mayb still the same. after 55 monthly can withdraw a certain small amount. if you got some retirment insurance plan maybe slightly more monthly withdrawl.
