A starting salary of $5,500 and changing employers more than 10 times.
These are some of the latest findings of two surveys on the job expectations of degree and diploma holders.
While the examples cited above are extreme, the studies compiled by human resource agencies JobsCentral and Adecco show shifting attitudes and prospects of Gen Y graduates.
With a healthy economy and unemployment hovering below 2 per cent, the ball appears to be in the job seekers’ court.
They make demands that, perhaps a generation ago, would seem outrageous.
But employers are more likely to look for selling points like ability to work with customers and potential to take on bigger roles, rather than focus on an applicant’s paper qualifications, HR practitioners say.

Thanks FI for posting this.
I ahve many comments on this.
Most jobs now go through job agencies, head hunters. I believe some graduate anmd diploma holders may be going for better prospects and pay. But there are a group of people with such qualifications that really need a job to at least make ends meet.
when a job advertise (by employer direct), a candidate can write in and deal direct with the company hirer HR - they go on with their reviews and interviews.
Th problme comes now with head hunters job ads. They advertise x dollars. But when an applicant see is suitabble and wanna get the job for x-y dollars, that is lesser pay, the head hunters usually will not select these applicants for interview event if they are match and very suitable for the post.
Becasue these HR are now swayed to pushing the applicant with the highest pay demand to the salary as posted in the ad. They aare earning commision of the advertised salary and they qill usually push for the highest even if an applicant is not suitabl than another that is more suitable.
Also you see the same company same ad always appear. if you do ever join one of them and work for a while there you will know why these repeated postings from same companies have a high turnover rate.
HH do not post job ads. if u know wat HH is............

These days it is very easy to spot positions or companies with high turnover. Look at the job ads which indicate clearly to tell candidates to state every reason for leaving every job you will know such companies and posts have very high turnover rate. Normally staff will not want to leave jobs if the working environment is healthy and good, good prospects and pay.
