Pls la. This is Singapore. Who did you vote for in the last election?
what tokking u?
Job security/availability/salary is heavily linked to influx of foreigners and PR, which is directly linked to politics.
As I have explained in related threats that we have to accept spore has peaked when govt begin to limit the inflow of alien workers. Recent survey by Hayes consultants (if I am not mistaken) shows employers in spore do not feel they are less satisfied with the quality of new recruits(39% I believe) compared to those in HK(54% I believe). Of course, the softening of job scene is also due to the crisis from EU, US and the weakening of China since Spore is largely an export country almost totally dependent on our trade partners performing. Zero interest will last very long
In the founder of democracy(Greece) nation, 78% of greeks reject austerity but want to stay in EU inspite of all the reasoning offered.that one cannot eat the cake and have it. I hope sporeans will one day realise this problem. soon enough if they are not prepared to face the sufferings of joblessnesses, less grad jobs and oversupply of grads like other countries etc. If we want to go backwards from the present state, there will be sufferings coming, not just discomforts. The best for spore is try to remain status quo now. Our heroes are only human and not gods and so do not expect miracles - every fruit has to bear the testimony of past hard work and wisedom, nothing less.
Are we serious to think that the world is so simple that if we have fewer or no foreign professionals/skilled workers those jobs will be given to sporeans? I have no doubt about this if we are the decision makers. But the problem is it is the employers' call and not even the govt's call. So please let's not argue - ask the dominant employers what they will do.
That's what you get when your Worker's Union is more concerned with grocery sales than worker's welfare.
In Singapore, employers have more market power than employees.
actually I have no issue with employers having more power or what. we cannot control them. if the job market is bad, naturally, they will hang high high and benefit at the expense of employees and job seekers.
What I don't understand is... Govt appears totally oblivious of the situation.
I hate working for singaporeans. Cannot dig nose, workplace too untidy kena, make one mistake - bonus kena cut. All work like tool, like a robot.
Come to msia if you feel too stress. I see worker go to sleep in office - nothing happen. I see worker come late every day - still can get bonus. I see worker cause death of co-worker thru negligence, co still employ the fella.
dun wan. ringgit so weak. I go there I get 50% pay cut.
How much is the msian bonus? 1 month? From what you say, the bonus is being divided equally to all employees - that would sound low bonus. Ie it is like in restaurant where they divide all the tips among the operatives equally - so not much at all.
Job security in SG with permenant contract? Joke of the day.
Unlike in Eu they can still fire you any time without notice.
Actually I believe contract jobs are the norm these days. It happens with globalisation. It's a way to downsize when times are bad but if you work in civil service, it is unlikely they will make contract workers leave. My personal experience tells me it's a rather tolerant environment in there, a lot of morons can stay on for decades. Private sector, no.
