STOMPer Jinglebells took up a part-time job for an
event at Kudeta restaurant, but was suddenly dismissed along with other
part-timers after being 'lured' to the carpark on the pretext of
collecting ice.
The STOMPer elaborates:
"Kudeta restaurant on the 57th storey of MBS hired 300 part-timers for a function for $12 an hour from 6pm-2am.
"But on the day itself, there were many more part-timers who registered on the spot.
"After
we were assigned our jobs and started our shift, the restaurant
management then called groups to go down to Basement 1 of MBS to help
collect some ice.
"We waited in the hot and stuffy carpark for almost an hour before more batches of people joined us.
"They
were told that they were assigned a different job and were "lured" to
the carpark just like us. We were then sacked with a paid salary of 4
hours. They cited reasons like “overwhelming response”.
"We were not given a choice and were asked to leave MBS. However, friends of permanent staff were told to stay.
"At 11pm, more part-timers were dismissed for the same reason.
"How
can we have such employers in Singapore? Shouldn’t there be a quota for
the number of employees? Kudeta hires part-timers regularly and I would
urge Singaporeans to think twice before working there.
"Not only did they lie, but wasted our time to make a trip down to MBS."
Power la... Dunno stomper is true or not but this is really funny...
inhouse HR or outsourced to agencies to find?
no $$$ company.
Part-timers do not have any rights. The company can ask them to leave earlier if manpower is over-staffed. They are lucky to have even been paid for 4 hours (which the article did not state whether they have worked for 4 hours already or not.) The part-timers who registered on the spot would be given the last priority and they can be asked to leave even without reason. This is Singapore.
Don't work in this type of service sector! Cheater!
The hiring process should be more transparent..as in hire the part-timers before the event and not on the spot. It is also definitely unfair to those that are not the staff's friends..
Totally destroys MBS reputation man..
I can assure you that the reputation of MBS is still solidly intact.
well yes.. Singaporeans don't even bother about these sacked employees cos they are busy gambling during CNY right.. -.-
