In other countries, foreigners are only allowed to take up jobs shunned by locals, but in Singapore, not only are they allowed to compete directly with Singaporeans for jobs which can otherwise be taken up by them, Singaporeans are now told by their supreme leader Lee Kuan Yew that they will have to accept it.
For video:
Speaking during the South Asian Diaspora Convention two days ago, Lee Kuan Yew was asked about the political implications of his mass-immigration policies to which he replied:
“So you’ve got to accept the discomfort, which the local citizens fear that they are competing unequally for jobs. (It) cannot be helped.”
He also claimed that China is ‘easier’ to govern compared to India as 90 percent of its people speaks the same language.
At 88 years of age, Lee Kuan Yew is the world’s oldest living MP. Though he does not hold any ministerial posts in the Singapore cabinet, he still has five full-time and part-time private and press secretaries from the Prime Minister’s Office working for him.
When asked if he will retire a year ago, Lee said:
“You work as long as you can work and you will be healthier and happier for it. If you ask me to stop working all of a sudden, I think I’ll just shrivel up, face the wall and just that.”
While Singaporeans are forced to compete unequally with foreigners, the PAP employs all kinds of dirty tactics to prevent its political opponents from competing with it.
This topic is about politics and jobs, please let it remain here.
well, we voted for them in the elections so we have to accept everything that they say and do
Haizz... old news alr
ignore lky...he is too old and too stupid to think for his age.im not surprised he even wets his bed every night...and probably needs 3 or 4 foreign maids to clean up after him.
his policy had been implemented back in 1980s till today.its just that he may have kept quiet about it....and was ignorant about his cannon fodder principle.
people arent like packets of frozen meat packaged and shipped to spore from usa, brazil and australia.
We have a serious problem if we see their competition a threat.

actually spore has way too much foreigners skilled on all levels from diploma to degree standards.
its like having vitamiin pills or nutritious food.to have them at a normal humanly moderated level is good...but to have too much even though they are vitamin pills or nutritious food may kill the person taking them.
it all boils down.....do the politicians know what they are doin and asking for?and if that is so...do u see quality life of every human in spore???all i see is food getting more expensive...housing beyond everyones grasp now...and we are drinking newater refined sewer water mixed in with missing human body parts.
Are there laws to prevent employers to put citizenship as a employment criterion?
If he lets foreigners to be in the parliament or even be a minister of parliament. I would support his view. We really need foreign talent in particularly in politics. Adding in foreign politicians would bring new insights of how the country could be governed and will bring Singapore to greater heights!
Lokey, i do agree to lets foreigners to be in parliament or even be a minister of parliament, but only if they are from a first world nation like UK, Aus, Japan, korea, Taiwan or Hong Kong.. Instead of those whom are from a developing conuntries.. I rather they stay back help their own countries rather then coming here to snatch over house, job, space and girls...

Yes to the 60.14% voters to what you said. Now, I know you are one of them.

Old news means it is been reported like months, years or weeks ago. This is just a few days ago. You just born yesterday?
old bugger always the same one
I wonder why the government like to sell our country out to foreigners so easily. It has its benefits of course, but when it reaches a certain point, the people will start to feel a lack of 'belonging' to their country.
Together with the recent election results, I'm certain this would be a point for thought.
So maybe they are just making comments like this to make psyche us out and try/work harder?
2100 comments so far.
If u can be bothered to read all the comments, some are very interesting.

We are seeing a purging, the MOM actually raised levy of s pass, work permit holders. As for food prices... unfortunate chain of events. The government can't deny responsibility for flat prices though, imo.

Raising levy and purging are 2 different things.
So far, I think the numbers are still at status quo since the elections.
I don't think they are kicking anybody out.
You all can repent until 2016.

You should realize how spore government works... $$$ for control without question. Very soon employers will cut down inefficient FWs. Painful to have overhead up by 20% in a flurry...
I don't know what to say.
But it cannot be helped.
