Hi there,
what is the usual starting salary for Accounts Executives in the Advertising Industry? I just graduated with an honours degree from NTU but I'm being offered less than $2,300 per month for the position. Is this the usual rate and should I ask for a higher pay given my honours degree?
It IS the usual rate. In fact, normal starting out only around 2-2.2 for account executive. Considering you got zero experience in the advertising industry. Be prepared to work 15 hours a day or more.
It is said that 10 years ago, starting average pay for fresh uni grads (non honours) were around $2-2.2K.

Times are bad.
We have a very competitive labour market, most of the competiveness comes from imported cheap foreign labour.
PAP has a beggar thyself policy with regards to labour policies.
When you ask for alternative solutions, they will tell you there is none available, so you guys have to bite the bullet.
Upgrade yourselves and get lower pay, cheaper faster better.
When I read about salary surveys putting average fresh grad salaries at $3-4K, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
I know of many graduates who have been working for 10 - 15 years at mid manager level all probably making on average $4-5K.
Such big disparity.
thanks for the info. Yup I'm prepared for super long hours. I guess the fresh grads getting 3k plus are in the banking industry.
But times are good now, plus salaries are supposed to increase, no?

Yes.
Supposed.
Look what I found on the web in regards to starting pay for fresh grads.
Interesting because they forecast starting salaries will drop in 2011 as compared to 2010.
Is it true for those who just graduated this year and have found a job already ?
Another thing to note.
Apparently contract jobs pay better.
Pay more for the less security a contract job offers?
Compare the above with this.

Big difference.
$3K vs $2.4K.
