I have been working for about 6weeks in this company. Its my first job after graduation and so far the job is ok.....People are nice and friendly, but career progression and salary increment will be painfully slow. Salary is $100 lower than what I asked for so its going to take a long time to get somewhere....
Another company just offered me a position with a salary $900 more than what im currently getting. Job scope will be different but its something I know i can do. If i take up the offer, my boss and colleagues will be very disappointed because i wasted their training efforts on me and my work will be directed to them. Either way, they wont think very well of someone who quits after working for such a short time.
what are your views on this? i need to make a decision soon....
thanks
how much are you earning now?
You will soon learn that life will kick you in the balls if you don't think in terms of I, me and myself in the corporate world.
currently 2.6K

Better go, lots of people will kill for that kind of pay increment, and it's true, look out for yourself, working life nowdays very short, when you are 40 years old, you will be in danger of being retrenched, so make hay while there's sunshine.
yeah you are not earning enough now.
is this going to reflect badly o my CV when future employers see that i only worked for 6 weeks? or actually 2months after my termination period.

You don't have to put this short period of work onto your CV.
money is not everythin but you still need to have money
tell your boss that u got better job offer n $900 more, see he can match or meet him half way. its UTU
900 is quite a lot. 900x12=10,800 per annum
What do you think ?
in the past, people are dead loyal....in modern times, u must jump down from the tallest building if u dun jump higher....lol
ok...so how do i put it across to my boss nicely? i dont want to leave a bad impression...
go for the new job... it's rather common sense... The extra $900/month would be able to cover your housing loans (if you have any)
It's better to move on to the next company that can offer you good prospect then staying in a company who will slowly squeezed you more than what you worth..
if your boss appreciate you , he will do something to keep you.Unless u are disposable to him
Just be very honest , you do not fit into the organization, and best make it sound convincing.
you have to go. eventually you will understand leaving emotional attachment to a job is the number 1 crime you shouldn't commit

I have to agree with you on this.
For me, $ is everything....I'll jump ship. I won't worry how the boss or co-workers look at me....Its my career, not theirs....I'll go for it!
remember that no one is indispensible in singapore nowadays.
there is no moral-contract between employer and employee nowadays to provide for a stable pay and stable job.
your $2.6k job can be easily hijack by cheap foreign replacements, and therefore, your role as an employee is to be mercenary and work for the highest wage.
that being said, a $3.5k job can too be hijack by foreigners, but nevertheless, you get to enjoy an extra $900 every month, and that is something to live for/ work for.
definitely going....just how to break the news...since these guys have been good to you, just return the favour.....speak to the boss and tell him honestly that you've got an offer that's $900 better and you plan to accept it...apologies profusely and thank him or her for the wonderful hospitality and blah blah...don't give the letter immediately, tell him you'll submit it by the end of the day...let him digest the news..best wishes..
JUMP for sure !
nowadays, employees jump while employers dump !
no more loyalty to talk about !
better to get more money for a while before you're eventually replaced by cheaper foreigners
this goes similarly for love....the world and gals would want to control the guys and expect them be loyal without treating them well
JUMP FOR BETTER LOVE!
update:
told the news to my section manager and he received it quite well. He was disappointed but at least he didnt scold me. He tried to work out with HR for a counter offer but they could not match it, so they accepted my resignation letter.
GM is overseas so i dont know how he will react to the news when he returns...anw its only 2 weeks of enduring the awkwardness so i will grin and bear it. Hopefully everyone is in the CNY mood.
thanks for your opinions guys...
