How long are they unemployed already?
i see... you reject an application for $100 difference in salary and you are blaming the market for poor employment conditions...
Is 100 very little to you? it amounts to 1.2k per year excluding bonus.. And I'm looking for a job that can last me at least 3 years = 3.6 - 4k.
If 4k is very little to you, I'm sorry, it means alot to me.
I work for 2 years in my previous job and pay increment is $50( 1st year pay rise is $28, which is before the collaspe of AIG). So, 100 means 4- year increment for me, if I were to continue working there.
No, I reject it mainly because it's 1.7k, which is LOWER than what my salary is before. Why should I negotiate for a lower pay than my previous job? I'm not downgrading FYI. I left my job to upgrade. Why should I lower down my expectations?
I'm blaming poor employment conditions because I should be getting 2k, and 1.8k is the BARE MINIMUM salary.
I would like to ask you, how much do you earn then, to say that I should accept the difference of $100?
I went for an interview, got the job the next day. now I know why I got the job offer so fast. cos the previous guy worked for few mths nia. alot of people resigned from this post which I have occupied now. seems like I have quoted too low for this position, sigh, should have asked for 300-500 more at the very least.
300-500 is alot... Are you degree holder? and you might wanna check if you are underpaid...
You have to get a job before you resigned.
You still have to feed yourself and your family.
As for underpaid, you have to check around for proper salary.
Cannot expect more now as more cheap labour is available.
Ask you guys if an 'O' level holder is asking for $1,200, would you consider him to be overpaid, just nice or underpaid?

I can earn >$100 USD in 3 months time just from my Adsense income, 600+ from stock dividends a month and SG$100 in an hour or two.

Who to blame for leaving your job before finding another? Upgrading requires a plan, you didn't have one. You want to seek for a higher pay, nothing wrong with it, but where's your backup plan? You drove yourself into the state of unemployment.
There are many mistakes you have made in your actions to upgrade. I don't want to bombard you at all in my posts, but the fact is in the real life, you hold the key to whether you are employed.
Think about this.... you left a salaried job first, then attempt to seek for a higher salaried job. Yet when you can't find it, you blamed on poor employment conditions.... so why do you even leave the first job in the first place???
To upgrade, you may say... But upgrade what??? Upgrading is about upgrading of skills set... Upgrading of experience in doing different things... in learning new skills...
Correct me if I'm wrong... You are treating upgrading as upgrading to a higher salary for a similar kind of job, i.e. Admin Assistant.
But put yourself in the shoes of your prospective employer... If you were to apply for a job that many can do as well, why would the employer be willing to raise your salary over time when he can easily replace you with another local fresh poly grad? Why would a new employer be willing to give you a higher salary?
And so what if you worked for 2 years in your previous job? If it's the same routine job in the same company, it merely counts for an experience of doing something that someone can also pick up in a matter of... days or weeks?
Btw, my sis had to send out 60+ applications before receiving 2 replies in 2008. Have you sent 60+?
I'm spending the time to say all these not to suan you or anything... but to make you think deeper... not to blame but to take some form of action...

Educational cert matters only in the types of jobs
What matters is how easily replaceable he is for that job... or the job scope...
Obviously if you are an O level holder asking for $1200 to work in Macs for 10 hrs per day 7 days a week, you would be paid just nice. But if you in sales and is a top salesman bringing in top dollars, then $1200 would be grossly underpaid.
The reason I quit before finding one is because of the sudden change in working hours of the company which I cannot compromise. So I need to leave before finding one.
The picture you gave me is somewhat similar. A local with experience and FT/local without experience doing simple work, of course I lose out. It's either I negotiate a lower wage or I search longer for a job. But call me stingy or whatever, 100 is alotttt to me
Honestly I don't know how many I sent out but definitely not 60 >.< OMG! 60+ in 2008... I can sense despair...
Well, for me I'm working part time and waiting for a nice full time job.
@ Royfang : ya, as what eagle says. You need to see experience, working hours, job. But Mac where got so nice. I heard the pay is around $3.50 to 4 right?
Ok you have your reasons I believe. My bad.
Good luck! Ganbatte!
Btw, 10 hours * 30 days * $4 = $1200 :)
lol.. 30 days sia... you work until die eating fries... I calculated using 5 days per week.
How different is the view for a person to look up a ladder and a person who look down from a ladder. 600+ from stocks alone =.=" You achieving to be millionaire by 30?
I started from nothing much after army. But imagine days with 4 ~ 5 hrs of sleep, 7 days a week.
And to the final question, no.
How old are you? (can don't answer, I won't be offended..)
I can't imagine working 7 days a week for months... But I've worked from morning to night everyday for 2 weeks.. and well. cmi... Simply too tiring and not rewarding...
I will be 27 in Sep.
7 days a week for a year plus already. This year busier than last year.... But next year will be better...
Cross fingers and hope for a better next year...
Is it correct for me to say job market is very bad right now?
>according to "some" if ft are not being employed here , co would had no choice, but to shift to another country - if i am not mistaken
now gahmen rich bowl job depend on your performance
It's a pity the government has so little faith in us. Why don't let nature takes its course, if MNCs left, let there be local SMEs on the rise.
so why don't you start a local SME?
turns insane after eating lamb ribs for 6months....
you asked me? a jobless person?
starting a business requires capital, enough cash to last through the zero cash-flow period.
that's why I'm saying, had the government not imported so many talents, we would have found jobs and can have savings, and when the MNCs are about to leave (if it happens), some feeling insecure will think of starting a business. My two-cent worth.
1) You have job choices. You refused to take it by saying it's different. That's choosy in my opinion; you chose not to earn capital to start a business.
2) If you think it's crazy to start a SME from being jobless, what makes you think we can let local SMEs rise when the MNCs move off and leave citizens here jobless?
And I guess you wouldn't want my honest opinion of you here because it will be too brutal.
Your life, your choice. Doesn't bother me. Gosh, why am I even wasting time typing all these when I can type out a nice blog post and probably earn half a buck more per month for many months down? :x
1) Chill. Advice taken not ignored, though not now. Has been trying out other avenues.
2) There is a difference between jobless with cash, and jobless without cash. And when MNCs leave, competitors are less.
1) Glad to hear that. Wish you success!
2) MNCs can actually spark more SMEs to cater services to these MNCs. So it work both ways too! Opportunities are always present. Remeber, what you see as problems can be seen as business opportunities by others.
My previous post was typed out after a long tiring day (Imagine wake 7am, sleep 2am, in between is work). Chill too :)
