You might need to change your expectaions and career path.
High end, high value added jobs are getting lesser and lesser in Singapore.
Unless you are very lucky to get back to your research areas, you might have to settle for careers in the service/tourism sector now (read careers in IR, casino gaming and related jobs).
Even then, this IR, casino sector might lose its appeal after a few years and you might need to be retrained into other areas depending on what the government comes up next.
Just look at the past 10 years of various hubs they were pushing. Most of them kind of died off and lost their appeal after a while.
Right now, their mantra is "as long as you get a job (no matter which sector or pay), you should be thankful to them".
career from an econs takes a path of uncertainty...and is never a straight path you have to pick an industries understand the trade of industry and be an analyst for that.
I hear of a lot of people all switching career paths because they got retrenched or are disillusioned in their jobs.
Engineers are taking acca to go into accounting. Lawyers leaving the legal profession to other areas. IT grads trying to move into the financial sector. Quite a fair bit trying out to be property agents or selling insurance through limited job opportunities in their areas of expertise.
It's a crazy chaotic job market right now.
Prior to your uni days, where were you? JC or poly?
if poly, you could try declaring your highest education Diploma in this and that...
if JC just declare your highest is A levels
who knows this may boost your chance of getting employed
don't reveal your bachelor or masters degree whatever..
these days job experience is valued more
start from bottom

Who knows if there are poly or uni grads who claim they only have primary school education just to get that $500 a month temp or contract job just to make ends meet for their families.
Times are bad.

If everything is blamed on others, nothing will ever get done. Most people I know who graduated in my year are employed.
Be practical. There’s no point going for ideals and dreams if they do not earn you a living.
how's life in your ivory tower ?

It's great. At 26, my hard work has allowed my dividend portfolio income to match my basic expenses.
Thank you for asking.
TS, there are more and more PHD holders that go into research especially they are cheaper and from other countries China and India.
A Msc degree can no longer compete with these foreign talents anymore.

drive taxi.....lor....
the unofficial but accurate unemployment figure for US is around 20%............in certain European countries like Spain, it's already officially over 20%...........that's close to depression levels so you can imagine how good economy is gonna get.................and don't forget the manipulated economic figures from China..............where car sales had gone up but petrol consumption remained flat..............factory production went up but electricity consumption went down................
govt jobs will be safest in the near future or jobs catering to the high-end market.................depression will eventually come................
even graduates will be in big trouble as PAP is letting in foreign graduates by the boatloads and they're cheaper.............
for those lucky enough to have parents that can see them through university, time to see if can escape to Australia or New Zealand..................
for those who are not ambitious or know their own limits, then join SAF is best as govt still throwing tons of money in the military.....................the crappy graduates would fare better in the Police where it's basically a dumping ground for 3rd class graduates..........
stay clear of properties now and wait for the big crash...............same for the stock market.............try not to buy a car................
as for the rest, vote PAP out so your kids can have a future.....................only the elite will prosper here at the moment.
I'm already feeling the heat fighting with FT.
out of the more than 20 applications I send for a mere admin assistant, only 2 replied. and I'm asking for only around 1.7-1.8k. The rest all go to the drain.
@ as romanista: No use going into Government sector. Because I've worked for 2 years and my job increment : 50 dollars.
I'm finally able to vote, and I'm sure it goes to worker' party.
Some Filipinos (piony) asking for sing $1 -1.2k
$1.5 some think you are expensive

Let's be practical. Although it could be true, you are still making an assumption that your application was rejected because of FW {they are not FTs to me}.
Its good compared to last year, but not as good as one can imagine.

Sorry to say this but regardless how many years you worked, your asking of 1.7 is high compared to what the FTs are asking for. They easily undercut you by 300 to 400 bucks.
For a mere admin assistant post, FT can do the same for less, which employer doesn't want that?
job market why not good
see everyone eating exp meal
using i phones
driving posh cars
of course market is good

well, I assume you haven't quit your gahmen sector job. you could try getting promoted if you want a bigger increment
and 1.7k is pretty high for an admin assistant position.

haiz. indeed.
1.7k high? I thought that's pretty much the average wage for a dip holder. I got 2 years of working exp as well...
Wages is really pathetic nowadays... If this goes on in the next couple of years, I might REALLY consider working as a cleaner/ waiter overseas - the worst case scenario. A waiter has salary of minimum 5-6k SGD excluding taxes and expenses. minus everything I still get 2-3k if I eat cup noodles everyday. Better than the stagnant salary I'm getting now.

yep u go wash toilet in aust
can easily get aus 15/an hr
You thought? Times change, and they change very fast. FTs come here to do jobs we don't want, so that we're forced to go overseas to take jobs they don't want?
