A few months ago I was sacked by my company for poor performance.
I signed the letter of appointment which states that if you resign or get sack within 1 year you have to compensate 1 month salary.
I than went online to post the company details and they know about it and are very angry.
They have now send a reminder letter to me to pay the amount or else they will take legal action against me.
I have went to sought free legal advise from the community centres.
The volunteer lawyer told me that it is a unfair contract(if I resign within 1 year I compensate 1 month salary so if I get sack within 1 year they should compensate me 1 month salary instead and not the other way for me to compensate them if they sack me).
But the thing is I can't afford to employ a lawyer and most likely the company will sue me because I went online to post about them.
They are willing to forgive me for posting online about them but they are determined to make me pay them the 1 month salary.
They are a big public listed company so they definetly have the money to employ lawyers to sue me.
If I lose the case I will have to compensate them their legal fees too.
I have though of fighting the case by myself to save the legal fees but I think employing a lawyer will increase my chances of winning.
So where can I go to find affordable lawyers?
Any recommendations?
If have can drop me a email to [email protected]
dun worry, they wont take further action de. just ignore the reminder letter, as its not even issued by a lawyer. if you want, you can go down to MOM for advise.
Went down to MOM already. No use. They say you have to employ your own lawyer to fight the case if they sue.
When the company sends the lawyer letter will be too late already because I will have to pay them the 1 month salary plus the legal fees too..
I doubt if the company would go to the extent of hiring a lawyer just to send you a lawyer letter. even if they do, when you go to court, the judge may not side them and may side you instead. its a case of a big co vs a helpless poor ger who was just dismissed and the judge may get sympathetic to you. call SPEC if you like. if you dunno SPEC number, call SHRI on Monday to ask. they will be glad to refer you to SPEC.

First keeptouch, then daveteo and now elinda, the same info, same person ?
which company is that? dun be afraid lar, just because they send u a letter to demand payment? as long as you dun owe them any money, you have nothing to be afraid of. its not like you borrow money from them or they pay you one month salary in advance before you are sacked. the judge wont side them one, trust me.

i am sure the legal fees will eventually be more than the 1 month salary you have to pay your former company.
if you dont want any trouble just pay them and move on.

try Legal Aid Bureau... they give help to people with limited means, that is, if you qualify

please scan or take photo of your whole document that you signed. you can censor your name and address. Need to know which company. Also can you name the company? PM me if you feel not convenient here.
I think for these kind of unfair agreements and contracts, if you blow the matter up big, go to Media, let the public know what kind of stupid company they are to take advantage of people, then this will make them to think carefully next time about taking advantage of others. I believe as long as you're right, you have to make a stand and not give in. The media loves stories like this because it helps to sell newspaper.
