Hi all,
I signed an appontment letter with my employer.
But it did not state a min working duration
& i resigned after 3 hours of working.
They said they want to sue me .
Is it possible?
The notice period stated there was 1 week notice (probation period)
Please guide !! Thanks
Just ignore them for now, unless you receive a writ of summons from the courts.
Ya it is so absurd !!
1st time encounter this type of employers !!
I told them i will be waiting for the letter
Normally, companies would state the period of time the employee needs to serve notice or pay in lieu of.
Call MOM to enquire.
Hi,
The letter of appt stated 1 week during probation period.
But i just did work for 3 hours & want to resign
She did not ask me to give her a week notice.
Sure,i will call MOM if there is a need .
Thanks =DD
If you settle after you received the writ of summons, they can't take you to court, but they would have incurred cost.
Even if they write you a legal letter demanding payment, just ignore them, only take action when you receive a writ of summons from the courts.

If the letter stated one week notice then the company has the right to sue you or get you pay.
It depends on the terms and conditions of your contract. Even during probation if the contract state to give 1 week notice or in lieu of pay for termination of service then you will be at the losing end. Unless you didn't sign any contract in the first place if not MOM can do nothing about it. Try to negotiate with your company HR? Some company will let it pass cos to hire a lawyer might not be cost efficient if the employee pay back is minimal to cover the cost of legal paper work.
Why did you want to leave after 3 hours?
I assume it was around lunch time you decided it was not your cup of tea?
I guess if you sign a contract means it takes effect immediately. Just like after we sign on a phone plan contract, I don't think the Telcos will let you terminate it without payment for breach of contract even if it's within 3 hours.
T MythosLogos:Ok sure i will try if there is a need.thx
T Charlize:Yes it totally sucks !! The job was some sales job selling health supplements.
She still ensure me it's good to sell blahblahblah !!
And when i start the job,it was not as what i expected thou.
But it is not lyk phone contract of two years. There was no min work period stated & required. Can they still sue?Cuz they did not tel me they want me to give a week notice when i resign and afterwhich said want to sue me . zzz

if you are earning 1.6k or lesser and is A level grad, you are protected under employment act, dun worry.
usually the co try to scare you only. dun be afraid.

they can send you letter asking you to pay or whatever. no need to care lar, just heck care. if they want, they can hire a lawyer to send you a letter of demand. if you receive this letter of demand from their laywer, you can either ignore or do something. you can go to your MP and ask for help. The MP may write to this company or lawyer's firm. a lawyer's letter no need to scare one. unless they wanna take it further and apply for action at small claims tribunal or something. you can tell the manager, say if thats the case, I also reserve my right to go to the media, forum and MP.
okok thanks,i will wait for th letter if have & see as it goes
For goodwill sake, think the company may not want to sue you or whatever. If
duplicate due to technical fault
I guess they wanna scare me only.It was some new less than a month new company in sg..Maybe she tot i hear they going sue me den i will bring the notes & nametag back to the office or whatever loh.If they want to sue ,when i quit they will straight away say it ...what for still ask me to bring the things back to the office..When i reject to sending back to the office den she say wanna sue -_-... & when i asked her abt the 1 wk notice she never even respond
If it's a small company chances are they might not sue due to the cost incurred for engaging a lawyer etc. If it's an MNC it depends on the HR. One of my nurse was served 2 lawyer legal letters for breach of contract with a small practice.
Yeps,i dun think they even have a HR.
The office is even smaller than my room.
Oh,for a contract of how many years she signed?

what does the legal letter stipulate? payment rite, guess it. if not then send legal letter for f, right. so what if served with legal letter. its not even from the court. so what do they want?
