Say you are a diploma holder who draws a current salary of 1.7k
Assuming now the bad economy has recovered and you proceed on to find a new job, what should you indicate as your expected salary?
Indicate something higher but still a reasonable range for a diploma holder like 1.8k or 1.9K and that will give the boss the impression that you are greedy for money.
Indicate 1.7k and it seems that your value remains the same like very cheap skate like that and also the boss may try to push down your salary to 1.6k or 1.5k than you end up with a lower salary.
So what should you indicate for your expected salary?
There is such a word called: negotiable.

ya got say that before and the boss insists that I say an amount
aim to increase around 20% at least for each jump
1.7k ==> ask for 2.1k then let them bargain down to 2k
Then be smart. Say S$1800/-

then might as well don't change job then
2k isn't very high to expect.
Do you know why the bosses like to ask you alot of other questions before they ask you the money question?

if there isn't much increase, what for change?
You badly need a new job such that you are willing to accept a lower or equivalent pay?

Then you answered your own questions again.
Stick to $1.7k minimum. Tell your interviewer that is your baseline lah.
$1.705K, you got the job!
how about say "1.7k is the minimum. of course if you will pay me more I will be very grateful and wokr double hard for you"

I'm paying you $1.705K, thats 0.005 more than your minimum, so work doubly hard!

I will say ok. than a few months later when I find another better job I will give him the resignation letter and tell him someone is paying me more so I need to work harder for that guy
Think fresh grads are asking for less than $2K these days.
Throw in foreigners with some work experience also asking for $2K or less, it's a mighty competitive world out there.
depending on position...
imagine you gg for a cleaner position and ask for 1.7k...

wrong, employer will ask all the questions first n when they think they wan u, then they will talk about the pay.
ask for the sky, since they will only pay peanuts.
hahaa
I going to say. U aim high.
of cos u got something that is certainly an asset to the company.
Cannot do this kind of thing to measure your pay.
just write:
Expected Monthly Salary: $2XXX (negotiable)
