Environment Health Officer in NEA

1 of my friend who is a diploma holder recently got a job offer from NEA as Environment Health Officer.
The salary is only $1200 even though she is a diploma holder graduate from Singapore Polytechnic.
She was told that the salary is $1200 regardless of what education qualification you have. Even if you are a degree holder you still get $1200 only.
She don't really believe it. She felt that they are trying to eat her.
Can anyone here who work as environment health officer before verify if this is true?

sounds like she just goes around inspecting hawker centres and toilets.
does she even know what she signed up for before complaining?

NEA is civil service leh work there should be not bad meh.Somemore now economy so bad hard to find job leh. She went for more than 10 interviews already still can't find job so now desperate liao

you get paid for what responsibilities you hold..
look for mosquitoes doesn't sound like it needs a lot of qualifications.. nor much specialised skills...

She knows. But she just heart pain nia. because her previous job she gets $1700 than got retrechned. Now NEA pay her $1200 only and she is a diploma holder. $400 pay cut which is 25% pay cut she heart pain -

Road sweeper under PWD also civil service so should be not bad also.

Don't forget that it is very tiring job. Have to work on weekend, always go to different places to look for mosquitos and also you risk getting bite by mosquitos and get dengue fever -
beats zero and lazing around..
work.. pad the CV..
shows future bosses that she's willing to work hard..

if your fren thinks that she is above the job or salary that they are offering. tell her not to waste her time or that of her employers and give it to someone more appreciative and deserving.

For the time being, just accept the job lah.
Then look for the appropriate job.

I personally can verify it's true.
One of my security guards jumped ship to NEA to be their Environmental Health Officer..
Also getting $1200.. And he has maximum secondary 3 qualifications only.
I would advise this friend of yours to jump ship.. $1200 is really too low for a diploma holder..
Most probably your friend needs to brush up her interview skills..
I would say it's still possible to get a job outside.. As i have just successfully changed job and got a $400 pay jump.
(Note that I am a diploma holder too.)

Actually sec 3 qualification can get $1200 salary is not bad considering some diploma holders only get $1400 salary

You're right.. But since it's a job that a secondary 3 can do, your friend won't get paid any more than that.
Jump ship better. My previous job $1600..
Now i getting $1900..
Btw, your friend's field of study in poly? What types of job she looking for?

1200 is really too low.You sure you want to do? Even for a sec 3 is low.
if you work in the resturant, as a resturant boy, you can get $9 per hour.
That is 9 x 8 x 4 (one weekday rest day) x 4.3 + 13.5 x 8 x 2 x 4.3 = 2167.20 per month. even an O level is not required. But it is a tough job.
Even my friend who at the the drink stall can get $1800 per month.
If the dipolma cert is not getting you any where, it is time to think out of the box .

Does your friend has any interest in becoming a teacher?
She could try to take up BA/Bsc (GE) with her diploma. The starting pay while you are studying for the degree for a diploma holder is $1.7k+ a month.

actually your friend shouldn't even have applied for that job.
Anyway now that she got it, it's about applying for a new job at the same time and jumping ship asap.
What I don't understand is why never apply for better jobs? Diploma not that hard to find jobs nowadays.........

I diploma holder got 2 years experience. Went for more than 10 interviews than got a job

I can feel how painful ur friend have gone thru. A diploma holder should not get this type of pay. Even working as a security officer is getting more than tat ard 1,400 starting pay.
So make used of the diploma cert get a value added job.Asked ur friend dun work for NEA , pay so low.
My adviced is can try the IR marina bay , lots of job, many oportunity, etc
Ive friend went in only NTC 3 holder , I think for diploma should not be less than 1,200.
pray for ur friend to get a better pay job.
