There are 2,500 vacancies for newspaper deliverymen. But Singaporeans are not grabbing these jobs even in a downturn.
Singapore Newspaper Distributors Association president Samuel Tay said newspaper vendors are still facing a manpower crunch despite several recruitment exercises in the past 10 months.
Of the 1,000 deliverymen recruited, fewer than 10 have stayed on. The vast majority quit after a few days, he told The Sunday Times.
Why do it when $25 can be earned in <30 minutes?
Let's say I take half an hour per block, for 4 blocks, that would be 2 hours. Wow that's 25 bucks for 2 hours of work. Provided the block of flats isn't like that giant one at lorong ah soo.
Beggars can't be choosers.
If I didn't need to sleep, and have my own transport, I wouldn't mind taking it up for the extra cash. In fact, I would do it if it was something like just past midnight and not 4-6am timing.

I don't believe you can do 1 block in 30mins for 4 blocks, unless not many household order newspaper.
remember to include time to collect the papers as well
not to mention the unearthly hours of work...

I am assuming the fastest, and I never take into account the time to collect, so I only counted 2hr as the effective time which I actual start and end the run.
Given the senario which I can manage my time, I would do it.
This is extra cash, the cash earned daily would be more than enough for my transport and food.
report in at 4 am, finish work at 9 am. $25 is nothing for this kind of timing.

Nope. it's 10-7 work, then go home at about 8pm to sleep till 3.30 am.
$25 x 30 days = $750... better than stay at home shake leg hoping to strike toto one day.... can help pay bills also good...

Sometimes, certain things cannot be calculated so directly. $25, you need to wake up 3am and report 4am provided to stay close to collection zone.
By 8am finish, for $25. You think worth it?
Sometimes these journalists really no brains to think, if no choice, I rather work as a cleaner. more pay somemore.

Well.... all I can say is... there got to be someone who has to do the job eventually... lol...
I ever worked, doing manual labour under the hot sun for like 5 hours and get paid less than $5 each day.
erm do they provide transport to fetch you to work at 4am?
or they give you places close to your house than everyday got a van come and than you take the newspapers and distribute it to the blocks near your house?
good workout
I agreed it is a good workout. I do not mind trying. However it sounds too good to be true. $25 for 4 blocks of newspaper distributing.
i think salary is also base on per block minimum people subcri to the newspaper,
let say each column minus ground floor till top floor, average is 26 level, so average resident subcri, is average 12 house hold,
you need to walk down from level 26 till you reach ground floor, some more has to remember which house is your client, which house is not, carry all 12 sets walking down.
if the block has 6 columns, that mean u need to walk down 6 times, if 4 blocks. mean you need walk down 24 times

So for the 10 who stayed, they are fortunate for they probably need to distribute to point blocks...
If free on sat n sun, why not try it ?
woah low pay. higher pay i dun mind ^^ $25 for 5 hours work. thats peanuts nehx.
so how to apply for the job?
stupid newspaper talk so much but never say if interested how to apply for the job.
