there's something i need to know......
in SG, for example, you work for a company, and u make some mistakes, and cost the company to lose around US$70 - US$150.
does the company have the right to deduct this amount from my salary??!!!!
WTH???? what about those guys who didn't manage to win project bids and cause the company to lose US$1.5 million etc.? do the company ask them to pay up???!!
anyone who is familiar with SG laws or the corporate world here, pls advise.
i'm not sure if i'm being taken advantage of.
serious only, pls.
and btw, it was NEVER STATED on my employment contract that the company will deduct my salary if they happen to lose $$$ due to my mistake.
what mistake did u make?
Deductions for damages or loss
29. —(1) A deduction under section 27 (1) (b) shall not exceed the amount of the damages or loss caused to the employer by the neglect or default of the employee and except with the permission of the Commissioner shall in no case exceed one-quarter of one month’s wages and shall not be made until the employee has been given an opportunity of showing cause against the deduction.
(2) All such deductions and all realisations thereof shall be recorded in a register to be kept by the employer in such form as may be prescribed.
thanks Deepak c..........so from the law you pasted, the employer can deduct from my salary?
anyway, my mistake is booking wrong air ticket.
Is it over 25% of your salary?
If it is, can discuss with your employer that they have been wrong to deduct more than 25%.
If they don't give way, complain to MOM.

Air ticket can book wrongly one ar -_-"
thanks all..........no....it's less than 1/4 of my salary......
what i'm shocked to know is that how come companies don't provide protection for workers one?
anyway ah, elindra, the matter is not as simple as booking air ticket wrongly lah.....there's some wrong info being passed around and i didn't check carefully either.....KNN....
If you're found to be negligent, then the employer can deduct your salary ..
but firstly, you gotta find out if you're covered under the employment act or not!
Doesn't have to be stated. You fuck up, you pay.
And it was obviously your own fault, didn't check properly somemore, rather then paying back a small amount you want to talk legal terms here. You're gonna lose out even more.

not only u book wrong air ticket, u release erronous confidential information AROUND... u should be glad u still have a job....
why should incompetent people be protected?
If there are conflicting information that made you booked the wrong ticket, then maybe it's not your fault, can always share your loss with the other person who caused you to book wrong ticket. What are colleagues for if you can't share part of the blame game?
maybe TS should just thank his lucky stars he's not fired.
lol, thanks all........aye.......this is the 2nd time in 2 years that some $$$ is deducted from my salary....KNN......
anyone has similar stories to share? to make me feel better.
My salary was never deducted from me.
Hope you feel better.
no.. coz although we goof off, we get our work done and we make sure we're not negligent while at it...
No wonder you had to call air eastern airlines! And you used a prepaid card to do it somemore, must be trying to hide something.

Back to the topic. Hello, how does not winning the tender equate to losing company's money?
No tender won, no contract awarded, no project expenses, no money earned, no money lost.
someone just spilled the beans....

Don't even get me started about the damn cable. I was trying to link it to getting his worth on the 15 dollar prepaid card, the black and decker drill that can't really drill thru ceremics or wood or whatsoever, going on to the kinky clock mechanism from art friend at taka SC. How about his potential vietnamese wife and shaolin kungfu show now airing on saturday nights instead?

Sounds like an inept plan to kill David Carradine.
