Childcare centre operator, NTUC First Campus, has begun offering a higher starting pay for diploma and degree holders who join them as teachers under the Place and Train Scheme.
The starting pay for diploma holders will now be S$1,700 a month. This is S$700 more than what it was in January when salaries were last revised. After being trained, diploma holders can expect to earn S$1,850 a month.
NTUC First Campus has also raised benchmark salaries for centre principals from S$2,400 to S$2,700 a month. High-calibre principals can earn about S$4,500 a month.
NTUC First Campus feels its salary increase will create a new benchmark for the industry.
However, it said school fees may have to be adjusted gradually in the long run.
But it added the move was necessary in order to attract talent to the industry.
Chan Tee Seng, CEO, NTUC First Campus, said: "We hope that people who join us have a passion for the job and is not just about the money. They really like to work with children - that's the most important."
The childcare centre operator is also awarding 25 staff scholarships worth a total of S$1 million for part-time and full-time degree and masters programmes locally or overseas. - 938LIVE/vm
Thanks rednano this is quite a interesting bit of news. Here i saw a lot of forums where teachers are saying that they are paid quite low especially the kindergarten one. This NTUC plan will really help these teachers.
u r welcome
