Hi guys!
I’m new here, so hope everyone will duo duo zhi jiao (give me pointers). I have a few qns about job hunting, and I’m quite new at this finding-a-job thing, so please advise me from your experience. I'm really stress!!
STORY: First I applied for CompanyA on the 15thDec, then a few days later, on 17thDec I applied for another CompanyB.
Both are just actually basic serving/customer service jobs. Both had the “Help Wanted” sign outside. Both I went personally and applied. Both told me “Ok we will let u know”.
Now it’s almost 1wk later, no news at all. My frend told me, if they don’t contact u in 1wk, then give up hope on it.
QUESTIONS:
1--Isit true? Aft 1wk u should give up hope (well, for these kind of jobs at least)? Actually I thought these basic/parttime jobs they can let u know immediately?
2--Because I really prefer CompanyB actually (I saw it aft I saw CompanyA),
wat if CompanyA contacts me first, what if they offer me a job first? How? How?
Is it ok if I tell them: “I need some time (a few more days?) to consider”? (while I wait for CompanyB?) Will CompanyA “strike me off” straightaway?(forever?!)
3--Should I make a courtesy call/visit to see hows things? If so, when should I?
Anyway, I guess I better go look for something else then…
(although I really like CompanyB L)
Thanks to everyone!
Making a courtesy call, or at least a call to see what has happened to your application would be good. Not only does it kill the suspense, it'll also show them that you're genuinely interested in the job. If they hire you, great! And if they don't, at least you can take your mind off this and channel your efforts into searching for other job vacancies. That said, call company B first. Good luck!
Xel'Torias:
Thks so much for yr kind reply n gd advice!
Ya i now see how important it is to really 'chase after' the job/career that you want... Nowadays its really not easy:(
I guess all this hunting is a very impt experience for me. That said, i think i found wat i wanted liao.
Cheers 'n Happy 2009!
Agree with Xel'Torias. Once a manager whom I worked for said the reason he hired me was because I actually called back to ask whether I'm still being considered for the job. He thought I genuinely wanted the job.
Actually there is no fixed best way of making jb hunting decisions, because ultimately we are all dealing with human beings too. Guess the best way is to follow your heart. Go with the flow.
Thank you, gackt13, for sharing your experience... i think im not as terrified of job hunting anymore; i finally got in something not-too-bad, and im working hard at it!
Take Care!
