the race has been run longer than singapore has been independent...
we have singapore cup but horse-racing has a bad rep in singapore... not like in other places where writers like Charles Bukowski have written about it and practically live at the tracks...

i didn't go to the Melbourne Cup, i went to the Monash Race Day... since my uni is just beside Caulfield Racecourse...
in fact, my uni sponsors that day so all students get in free...
