Christians are strengthened in their faith through all the festivals. The Navitity plays and the Christmas Mass reinforce church teachings. Believers bring peace to non believers (Christmas Eve is "peaceful night" in chinese).

You need festivals to reinforce your faith. In the cynical sense, it is like national education and those propaganda advertisements by the government.
Christmas is a time when children or even adults act out the nativity (sp?) scene in the bible. And a time for Christians to go carolling to non believers. I don't see these actions as being evil. -

You can't keep the Sabbath on Saturday. Not in our culture. Actually many churches have service/mass on Sat, so in a sense they're keeping the sabbath on the correct day.
I think not many Christians keep the whole Sunday free as per the original Sabbath idea. Nowadays you can have midweek service and cell group on Sat or weekdays, so religious activities are spread out. -

Your train of argument is flawed. Not celebrating these pagan festivals has got nothing to do with grace at all. A pagan festival is a pagan festival. No matter how you want to try and disguise it.
If you want to take a more liberal view, be my guest. Just ask the question what would God/Jesus want you to do? Seriously.
my argument is flawed,we make sunday the day to go church to worship,but we do that on ourselves everyday..and to commerorate the day where he came to earth what is so wrong about that?
if it brings more ppl to know about christ,just whats so wrong with it?u seem to make it sound like celebrating christmas is taboo just because its not in the bible..
i dun wana go into evangelising,but christmas is the one day where i find it easier to let friends know about christ,because it is significant..to let them know where it all started,how he came and died and because of us.. -

When John baptised Jesus, did he follow any Old Testament precedent? No he did not. It was not in the Laws of Moses. But Jesus also allowed himself to be baptised in a ceremony not sanctioned by the Prophets.

I think Jesus would have celebrated Christmas if he were to be around in Orchard Road..............afterall, he mixed with tax collectors, prostitutes, and assorted sinners of all kinds.
He would have preached to the Banglas, forgave repentant audulterers, healed the sick and comforted the broken hearted ..............while 'holy' people avoid such "sinful" places.

2. like I said about christmas, the spririt behind it is wrong.
3. the significant thing is not about Christ's birth, but His death, we have victory and salvation because of His death, not His brith. I make a big deal about it not being in the bible because we are asked to obey God. Read 2 Peter for his exposition on destructive heresies and the like. The bible is our guide and not man. Christmas was created by the RC chuch.
4. if you don't get it, you don't get it. what is wrong with celebrating christmas? you celebrate a pagan festival and get caught up with all the little other things that go along with christmas, like the mistletoe, the streamers round the tree, etc... these are all parts of the pagan ritual which was normalised and in this the devil has the church deceived... and it is not celebrated on the correct day. How would you feel if someone celebrated your birthday 3 months later? -

i think that you misunderstand, I love God and His teachings for how can you say you love God unless you know God, I make the distinction here between knowing about God and knowing God. How do we get to know God, through spending time in prayer and in HIS WORD.

Jesus would not have celebrated Christmas because He would have recognised the correct spirit behind it. We are asked to discern the spirits or to test the spirits behind things. Also, chistmas is the mass of Christ, which was only instituted way after His death. Jesus himself would not have celebrated christmas because it is not within the Jewish custom to celebrate birthdays.
Mixing with tax collectors and prostitutes etc... how does that relate to Jesus celebrating christmas? Yes He associated with people that the pharisees or "holy" people would not, but it was only because He was looking to restore them to God.
