The term "idols" in the bible does not refer to those gods which you think are false. It refers to the likes of "baal" and other demonic statues. It does not refer to gods of the other religions. This is what happens when you do not look deeper into the meaning of the bible and read everything superficially.
1) monotheism : the doctrine or belief that there is but one God
2) polytheism : belief in or worship of a plurality of gods
3) atheists : there is no god
(ok, there is another group who call themself Free Thinkers, who I personally feel are one that are sill trying to decide which is which)
As a Christian, we subscribe to (1), that is there is only One God. therefore logically there can be no other gods.
by the way, the so call idol Baal was worship as a 'god' at that time, complete with priest, practices, rituals ...etc. -

the unbelievers I talked about are my parents!! I prayed to God before I came face to face with the challenge. My parents respected me by not asking me to hold joss sticks, I respected them by staying behind and enjoyed the dinner with them to remember the deceased grandparents, eating all the food laid before the tomb. Well, ancestor worship is really not a religion. They did not believe in any God in specific but want to remember the deceased parents and during Qingming then they offered food at the tomb. The only way they knew about prayer was to burn joss sticks and the papers. They didn't do any kind of prayer during the seventh month. which remarks? a general remark that he considers all other religions idols? or a specific remark that hits out at a specific deity?
If a Christian choose to state in a Christian-based forum (like it or not, EH is a Christian-based forum) that his belief is the truth, I think it is within his rights.
He would have crossed the line if, he goes over the Buddhist forum and bad mouth the folks there.
I have less problem with, say, a comment by a non-Christian that Christians believe in a lie, than one that you had made that Jesus is Satan.
I think it is quite well known here whether I have double standards or not. I am sure you know too, that I hit out at Christians more than I hit out at non-Christians, so please stop accusing me of having double standards.
All I am asking, Laurence, respectfully, please refrain from making derogatory statements about Jesus in EH. -

As much as this is a public forum, it is also a Christian-themed forum. Writing down Christian beliefs and doctrines is expected. One of the most prominent Christian doctrine is that "there are not other gods but Jehovah". I don't even want to go into the definition of what an Idol is.....
My personal opinion is: If any Christian ventures into the other religious forum and whack the hell out of them by posting pro-Christian threads, that is wrong. If I know that I'd be the first to kick the butt of that individual who posted inflammatory remarks.
What Johnnie boy had written about idols (I assume it's still about idols) is not erroneous by the Christian definition. Would I, CE, make comments about other folks' "idols"? Probably not, but can't we all tell that Johnnie boy has poor judgement in what can or cannot write.
In this particular case, an uncalled for, unprovoked deragotory remark was made about the central figure in the Christian belief, do you think it is fair?
We can all pass negative comments about Johnnie boy, but what has that got to do with Jesus? -
