So its ok for John to condemn other gods as "idols" ?Originally posted by Chin Eng:Out of respect for the more acceptable Christians here, I'd appreciate if you refrain from using Jesus' name in this manner.![]()

don't be silly. you pissed people off in the first place.Originally posted by Repented John 2:Why are you always spoiling for a fight? You dont try to drag people in.
Then what is your definition of idols? It is written inside the bible that other gods are idols so am i wrong to state what i believe? Or are you also out to persecute me for what i say?Originally posted by shade343:So its ok for John to condemn other gods as "idols" ?

Its a good thing. He can up the ratings, and i have reasons to come to EH for entertainment.Originally posted by Icemoon:don't be silly. you pissed people off in the first place.
it is ok .. I can tahan your nonsense.Originally posted by Repented John 2:Where did i piss you off?
The term "idols" in the bible does not refer to those gods which you think are false. It refers to the likes of "baal" and other demonic statues. It does not refer to gods of the other religions. Use your intuition to discern what are real and false gods.Originally posted by Repented John 2:Then what is your definition of idols? This is what happens when you do not look deeper into the meaning of the bible and read everything superficially.
You understand and you are not afraid to speak up, you have my respect. Thank you.Originally posted by Chin Eng:....because it is testimonially (is there such a word?) easier to go to some hill tribes in Thailand for a week or a month and be on you Sunday best to preach the gospel, it is more difficult to show the same testimony to folks who raised you up and see all you entire emotional and psychological flaws.
"Please God and not please men" - to me, it is another overused cliche... many-a-times used to justify personal agendas in churches - meaning a person wanted to do something, but face resistance, so throw up such a phrase - translated practically, don't challenged me, I am doing God's work....
the unbelievers I talked about are my parents!! I prayed to God before I came face to face with the challenge. My parents respected me by not asking me to hold joss sticks, I respected them by staying behind and enjoyed the dinner with them to remember the deceased grandparents, eating all the food laid before the tomb. My parents recognised my commitment in filial piety and became friendly with the new God I accepted.Originally posted by breytonhartge:CE be at peace with the unbelievers I agree, it is spoken about in the bible, but to put it like sg said to please them, then that is unacceptable!
Well, ancestor worship is really not a religion. They did not believe in any God in specific but want to remember the deceased parents and during Qingming then they offered food at the tomb. The only way they knew about prayer was to burn joss sticks and the papers. They didn't do any kind of prayer during the seventh month. Now we still visit the tomb during Qingming but we offer flowers instead.Originally posted by shade343:Thats because your parents already have a religion. Is there a need to turn tem into a christian.

I will introduce and share my religion to relatives and friends with other religion, that is the mission given to Christian, BUT, the way to do it differs. Most important is our way of life, the way I bring up my children. The last thing I want to do is to go through some training sessions and preach to them like introducing them to a MLM, or selling them some insurance. Whether they accept it or not is not my effort, and I never let this affect our relationships.
I was able to pray with parents, my sister and younger brother when the family was facing some difficulties and the strength, the love, the unity we gained from the prayer was tremendous. Nobody regret knowing our God.
I will never force my religion down anybody's throat, but I hope to show them what they could be missing if they do not know God.![]()

When asked who the idols or demons wereOriginally posted by Repented John 2:It is not so simple. Holding joss stick means worshipping the demons behind the idols. Why still hold joss stick? Afraid of persecution? When I was a hot Christian, I dont hold joss sticks even if my parents worship idols. But when i lost my fervour, I held joss sticks & worshipped false gods. You dont know the demonic forces behind them. It's not so simple. When my mum converted already, she still go and hold joss stick & she got attacked by demons!

Frankly, this is bulls.Originally posted by Chin Eng:respectfully, I think our views were from different angles, and if we differ, we differ because of where we are standing.
I was tackling the issue from as a Christian rectifying an erroneous Christian concept.
Your concerns are different from mine. Your angle is a non-Christian being offended by posts of an overzealous Christian.
I still don't see that as a double standard. Just different focus.![]()
From the Christian doctrine standpoint, Chinese (or any nationality) gods are deemed to be demons. Am I defensive of the Christian doctrine, yup. But I am not defending Johnnie boy.Originally posted by laurence82:Frankly, this is bulls.
You are using christianity as a defence for him to blast other religions, while not wanting people to be blasphemous towards your god. This is double standards.
Pray, what erroneous concept were you rectifying? You did not even touch on the issue of him labelling Chinese gods as demons in the first place.

Anyone wanting to blasphemous towards Christian is welcome to do it in another forum.... I didn't say don't do it, I say don't do it here.
It is strange that you are now saying that I am defending Johnnie boy, after all the things I'd said to him.
In case you forget I am visually impaired and you have amnesia), I was trying to rectify the concept of what is definition of "unclean" food, which is what this thread is all about. I believe I have managed to correct some of his thoughts.
