StarHub mobile customers will now have the option to sign up for postpaid plans which include free unlimited local data on weekends, said the telco on Wednesday (30 Aug).
Customers will have free local data from 12am on Saturdays to 11.59pm on Sundays, said StarHub in a release sent on Wednesday.
The five new postpaid plans are bundled with between 3GB and 15GB of data, added the telco.
Prices for the new plans range from between S$48 for 3GB and 200 minutes of talk time to S$238 for 15GB and unlimited talk time.
Customers will be able to sign up for these plans starting Thursday (31 Aug) online, at StarHub shops, authorised dealers and at COMEX 2017.

StarHub, M1 announce new unlimited data plans for data-hungry consumers
SINGAPORE: Two out of Singapore's three local telcos on Wednesday (Aug 30) unveiled new mobile plans catering to data-hungry consumers.
Mobile phone users who sign up for one of five new postpaid plans under StarHub get free unlimited local data on weekends, while those who sign up for an M1 SIM-only plan get unlimited data.
StarHub's free local data kicks in from 12am on Saturdays to 11.59pm on Sundays. Outside of the weekends, customers will have between 3GB and 15GB of bundled data, StarHub said in a press release on Wednesday (Aug 30).
The plans are priced from S$48 for the 3GB plan with 200 minutes of talk time to S$238 for the 15GB plan with unlimited talk time. The prices are slightly higher than the standard 4G plans StarHub currently offers, which range from S$42.90 with 3GB of data and 150 minutes of talk time to S$220 for 12GB of data with unlimited talktime.Customers can sign up for the new plans from Thursday at StarHub's website and shops, as well as authorised dealers and at COMEX 2017.
Customers on these new plans will be able to enjoy faster data speeds of 400Mbps nationwide on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note8 as well as LG G6, LG V20, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium, the telco said.
With the upcoming 1Gbps capable phones, StarHub said it will deploy gigabit-class network upgrades to increase bandwidth. This network will cover high-traffic locations such as transport hubs and shopping belts, and will be rolled out in stages, it added.
M1 GOES UNLIMITED
M1 on Wednesday also announced plans to offer unlimited data packages to its subscribers, with its third generation of SIM-only plans.
The most expensive such plan, at S$98, offers unlimited local data as well as 100 minutes of talk time on a 12-month contract. Without a contract, customers get 25GB of data on the same plan.
On the other end of the scale, M1's cheapest SIM-only plan at S$20 does not offer unlimited data, but 5GB with 100 minutes of talk time on a 12-month contract.Sign-ups for the new M1 plans start on Thursday. Those who sign up for the unlimited data plan from launch till Sep 2 will also get free unlimited talk time for 12 months as part of its promotion.
As for Singtel, a spokesperson said the telco regularly enhances its product offerings, to provide "excellent value for money". The spokesperson also pointed out that since late 2015, the telco has offered free mobile data on Sundays to customers on its Singtel Circle family plan.

Telcos rivalry: Under pressure from rivals, Singtel responds with new unlimited data plans
Some two weeks after its rivals brought back paid unlimited data plans, Singtel has followed suit on Friday (Sept 15) with plans offering "unlimited local data, talktime and SMS/MMS".
The move by Singapore's largest telco came after M1 announced the launch of mySIM3 98, a new unlimited 4G mobile plan for S$98 a month, with a one-year contract, on Aug 30.
StarHub on Aug 30 also announced its new mobile postpaid plans offering free unlimited local data access every weekend, from 12am on Saturdays to 11.59pm on Sundays.
In 2012, telcos here started phasing out buffet-style unlimited data plans and lowering data caps for various plans. This followed a worldwide trend where telcos noted their increasingly congested networks, and pointed out the need to manage finite network resources.
Analysts said that increased competition was likely to have motivated the move by telcos to bring back unlimited data plans.

In a press release on Thursday (Oct 12), the telco said it will launch a range of new mySIMe plans with handset subsidies, with the entry-level tier starting with 5GB data, 100 minutes of voice calls and 100 SMS/MMS for S$40 a month and going up to unlimited data, talk time and SMS/MMS at S$118 per month.The new two-year plans will be available for sign-up or re-contract from Friday at any M1 Shop, distributor, or online at www.m1.com.sg.
A spokesperson said the handset subsidy offered depends on the type of plan and phone. He added that the telco will not impose a data cap on those who sign up for the unlimited data plan.
These latest plans appear to target similar postpaid plans offered by rivals StarHub and Singtel.
StarHub's two-year M plan comes with unlimited outgoing calls and local data cap of 5GB, plus unlimited weekend data at S$88 per month, while Singtel's Combo 3 offers unlimited outgoing calls and SMS/MMS and 3GB local data at S$68.90.
M1's latest offering comes just months after it re-introduced unlimited data packages in August, while StarHub unveiled its plans offering unlimited local data on weekends. A month later, Singtel announced that customers who sign up for certain plans can opt for an unlimited data add-on at an extra charge.
