Planned to get a Nokia 5800 with a Starhub contract, but was told that it was out of stock and Starhub has no intentions of bringing that phone in. They have crappy phones like N6500 and E72, but 5800, ditto ?
Anyway, I went to the neighbourhood HP shops and found that I could get a brand new 5800 for as cheap as $350++. Nokia shop sells that phone for $699. Wonder what's the catch ? Is there a foolproof way you can see whether the phone u r buying is a refurbed second hand phone and how do you know it's not a export set meant for overseas use ? I strongly suspect a catch somewhere.Any common ruses HP sellers ploy to sell second hand phones ?
And does anyone where else I can find cheap and reliable 5800 sellers ? Thanks !
My experience from working with nokia is that, Nokia concept stores prices are higher by 10-20% compared to dealers...
And, 5800 is crap.
5800 im not sure if it is durable. now for under $400 you can get a average phone, do you need wifi? Do you have any other phones in mind?
I have a few friends who have been using the 5800 since it was first launched and they dun seem to have any problems with the phone. Yes,one of my "must haves" for the new phone is wi fi. That's the reason why i didn't take the 5230.
Had the Omnia 2 in mind, but the absence of Symbian software is a big turn off.

Absence of Symbian is a big turn off?
Have you tried windows mobile? There are loads more applications for windows mobile than symbian.
Furthermore, Omina II comes with Windows mobile 6.5.
if the 5800 is what you want, then i would recommend you to get it .why is the absence of Symbian a turn off? Although there is windows mobile on the ominia II, i find that window mobile UI is not very user friendly. If i were you, i wound get a basic phone with camera, and get an ipod touch. in my opinion, apple products are much better than windows for portable gadgets.
