Web services are applications that provide services to other applications over internet or network. .NET runs on a common framework so you can use C#, J#, VB.NET, etc and still get the same application. Mostly online stuff de. C++ is mainly for windows programming de, like program Diablo.

C# is developed to compete with Java in the enterprise and web services.
So C/C++ and C# are really for different purposes. -

C out-dated? windows, linux, unix is programmed in C..and they still are....except for windows now MAYBE mixture of C++ as well.
java vs C++...java was derived after C++, minus away confusing features(like -> pointers etc) and plopping in good features (e.g. single root)
ppl find java easier as it is more OO - requires object object object, for data items and functions must be member of some stupid class. bo global variable nor functions. but slower than C++ coz byte code. -
