  if the 1 whom u sacrifice for has been touched fr wat u did... u will feel tat ur effort is nt wasted!
  
  if the 1 whom u sacrifice for does nt appreciate, u will still feel happy n contented tat u finally did some noble thingy for ur loved 1....

  i can say i did a lot of things for my girl, but mostly insignificant ones.
  
  but there's this thing my girl did for me was to forgo an oversea training trip cum oversea posting that comes after tat.
