The rod should be interpret as discipline, guidance, correction and teaching.

In crowded cities, u see more nasty people around relative to a suburban setting. Does it means there's less nasty people on earth before ? No.

I have seen the way some brats behave in our restuarants - 1) some run around and scream their heads off playing with their "cousins" and their parents expect other patrons to put up with the din because afterall they are only "churens" what! 2) brat refuses to eat and rather play with his ipad when fed by the maid- and the kid is already at least 8 years old. Instead of scolding the kid the parents scold the maid for not being able to persuade the kid to eat! Ridiculous! 3)Brat at Toysarus picking up all the toys she want . At the counter the mother just takes out one or two items which she deems unsuitable for the child and the child breaks into a tantrum and starts hitting the mother . even after the mother retrives the two items and buys it for her . she still continues hitting the mother!" and the mother simply said:" look! uncle is looking at you ..."4) Little boy runs and knocks into the waitress at a Chinese restuarant. Waitress spills the gravvy and a little of it splashed on the kid hands. The waitress even said sorry to the child but the parents came up and berrated the waitress threatening to sue and this ad that... absolutely disgusting!

I also play in my childhood days, but not in resturants.....i think the parent should not wack the children but instead educate them. telll them not to play, or play a game with the children(if there are other kids) on who can stay still for the longest.

the parents don't even attempt to discipline them.. instead, they look at their rabid brats like we need to bow to them like that...
and when we say "spare the rod" the rod may not need to be an actual cane... most parents don't even know self-discipline these days...
to have a pet dog from the SPCA, you have to prove you are a responsible pet owner.. but any irresponsible braindeath can have children

Eh serious you know! Many parents bring these kids to restuarants so that they can sit down and rest whilst their kids give others ( patrons as well a swaiters and waitress) a bad time! But why should other patrons like me suffer the din and their churens running in circles whils the parents pretend nothing is happening? Surely I am entitled to enjoy my food in peace and comfort. -

I agree, children running amok in a busy restaurant is a hazard, I personally hates it too when I go restaurants in Singapore. In USA, the kids don't do so, because the restaurant manager will promptly tell the parents to control their kids. Same as in other public places.
Do not attack the children, always ask the child where their parent is, then speak directly to the parents in a calm manner.
When u attack the child, parents will instinctively become defensive n will attack u back.
Yes, we tend to give the child what they want in public, not because we want to spoil them, on the contrary, we want to shut them up. Because people start staring and they want parents to shut their kids.
at home, they won't get their way, because we'll let them cry their eyes out. If the public don't mind prolong crying of a child, then parents won't need to buy that toy n seem like they are spoiling their child.
