The 80K is negotiable, Indon is not a rich country. Which kidnapper, corrupt cop or anyone in a position of power will not quote a high opening price?
Bargain but don't insult them with a low offer either. Sentencing hasn't taken place right? Sometimes you pay directly, sometimes you pay through your lawyer.
After sentencing, there is early release for good behaviour. In Sg, very often people get 1/3 of the sentence cut off, other places they cut off 2-3 years. In some countries people are released on "grounds of ill health".

The negotiating people said the most can cut is 10k off the original quotation...70k.
Yanling's parents don't even have money in their pockets as most of their savings are used for medical bills as they have heart problems and diabetes. They are just small time hawkers in the market. So they also sort of given up as they knew they would not be able to raise the cash.
Yanling herself signed the confession at the police station and now remanded in a maximum security jail while awaiting trial. Will be around 6 months before her trials.
When she was there for the first week, she was thrown into the single cell for making trouble for the wardens with legs shackled and handcuffed for the 1st 3 days and after the first week, she was transferred her present cell.
They started with 80k because she was arrested with a rich guy who got out. They think she is rich. Plus if he paid to blame her, harder to change his story back.
Well the part about the confession sucks. Maybe once she paid, she can plead she didn't understand what she signed. If cannot then save her money for a more comfortable stay in prison. Go read the site I gave you.
She doesn't just have to worry about the inmates but also the guards.
She had difficulty understanding the language too and maybe that's why she was beaten by the cell IC.The cell IC seems to be of the big sisters in the prison.

What about the guards? You mean if she gets life imprisonment, she will serve only 10-15 years? The police detective who handled Yanling's case told her Indo friend that most likely she will get life imprisonment or at least 13 years in jail.Yanling told her Indo friend during a visit that the police handled her roughly on the night she was arrested by stripping her jeans, buttoned blouse and undergarments off violently to check if there were any more drugs hidden in her.
Her parents requested my friend not to inform the media of the 2 countries cos they did not want to associate themselves with Yanling anymore.Their health is not good too.
Well,Yanling has to start getting used to simple foods and going without the luxuries that we have from now on and living a controlled life. She used to eat fine dining and stuff like that. Will update when I visit her next week.

I don't know the sentencing guidelines. Sentence range depends on the severity of charge, actual sentence depends on degree of responsibility. Obviously a grey area and some people can exploit this.
She has to worry about the guard's advances too.
Going to media is not a good idea. When a foreigner case is widely known, the sentence is higher. Publicizing in Sg does nothing for you. Instead ask what Sg consulate can do to help in any small way.
Above all don't look rich. Price increase plus if she has no family support, when the payments stop she suffers. In a place like that, even having a regular supply of a basic need from your family makes you look rich. She has to bear with it. Also put on a brave front, cos which convict or guard won't like to bully a rich and spoilt person? Hope someone tells her all this when someone visits her.

Yeah that's an inmate who helps the jailers control the other inmates and tells them what to do. They also provide info on who misbehaves and get privileges.

Okay, will tell her when I visit next week...If she gets 10-13 years,it would be getting off light for her.I will be posted there to work for 4 years so hope she don't get transferred to some small prison island. Then can visit whenever I can to raise her morale.
If she is being held in a women's jail, then she would be much safer.Won't have to worry about getting being raped.
to wat i noe is about $50k
Like what I told my friend,Yanling has to be more mature and look out for herself now cos she is in a hostile jail overseas and will also tell her to listen to orders given by the guards and be more low profile.

They demanded 80k but after bargaining, managed to bring down to 70k.
But forget about it...Yanling's parents can't raise that kind of crazy money. She has to be prepared to lead a very hard life and grow in the process when she is in prison.
The authorities even asked Yanling if she wanted to get a quick trial and get it over with last month. She is still considering about it.

Yeah, actually come to think of it, don't think SG embassy will help much, lol... we're not like the Americans or European countries who care alot about their citizens...
Originally posted by RenesisTurbo:The jailed gal's parents don't have that kind of money to offer the authorities and the embassy's people told them to prepare for worst since their help is also limited. My friend also told me that the max sentence for 5g of cocaine is life imprisonment while the girl was caught with 7-8g of it.
The parents wants to keep the matter from the media too cos it is dirty family linen.Btw,how are the conditions in there like in the jails there? Is it very bad?Going to visit her on business trip next week...
The jail conditions can be extremely bad, just go to YouTube and search for some videos to see inside life.

Yeah, like what I told my friend just now on the phone...Yanling better get prepared for the hardships ahead cos she is not gonna get much help from outside. She is considering the offer from the authorities of a quick trial which she can be sentenced as fast as a month.
Advantage is maybe, the time spent in remand maybe counted in the sentence...She has up to Mon to respond to their offer. If she decides to wait until Sep,the sentence may be harsher up to even life imprisonment.

If I can get them to lower the price to $20k for release, is it ok? How much can the parents come up with, if it's decent enough, can work on that amount.
Very simple, when they asks for $80k, it means money can solve the problem, very good. That's a good start. So we know they want money, that's their objective. If she go to prison, they don't get a single cent, problem for them, but if they let her go, they have money (to be negotiated) to buy house in Indonesia, even $10k is alot of money. So we can have a final offer, let them know with certainty if they want their objective to be met (money), then that's it, otherwise it's a lose-lose situation.
I'm sure they are common sense people. Right now they knew they had a big fish in their hands, and they want to sell for more money, it's very common sense. On your side, you need to let them know either the fish will sell for this amount which you can afford, or they don't get a single cent, let them think. If you put yourself in their shoes, you know which option you want also.

To be honest,my friend told me the problem with Yanling's parents is that they are dirt poor, not even 5k in their savings when he suggested this idea to them. They need the money too for their monthly medication and stuff like that.
Truth is,they can't afford it.
I am just telling you guys what I know about them and their thinking.Been visiting unker and auntie too.
The food in the jail CMI,no pork to eat and the portions are quite small...My friend told me Yanling is always hungry late at night.Sometimes, the big eaters will sapu some of her food. But now she gotten clever, she hides a portion of her food in the crack of the wall and at night ,she helps herself.
Her parents do not have a house which they can sell and downgrade to a smaller house to raise the 70k or 80k to pay for her release?
What if they pay the money already and than they turn back on their words and don't release her?

You got a point and they can always say attempted bribery and keep Yanling longer in jail?
Also don't escape. Even if it is easy, getting into Sg is hard. And you know as a futigive, Sg will happily send you back no questions asked.

It is like you reached heaven after a long ride and get pushed back into hell after that.
She tried to escape once and got dragged back. Now when she is out of her cell, her ankles are shackled and wrists are handcuffed with 2 tough policewomen side by side.
Originally posted by RenesisTurbo:She suay suay took cocaine for the second time then got arrested. She is starting to have a skin condition which came from the shackles from her ankles.Caused by abrasions....The best we could is to give money every month to the guards to treat her better and send her clothing and food and money.Hopefully, she won't get life imprisonment.
She is already in jail...How to go out get tattooed?Heard from the Indo friend who is helping my friend to visit her in Indo that she got slapped and beaten by the cell IC for not understanding her instructions. She shared her cell with 7 others in an all Indo cell. She believes there are lesbians among them.I did not know there are lesbians there....
I believe the lawyer would advice you guys to somehow push the blame to the boyfriend or share the blame with him. Chances are if able to share the blame for drug possession then the punishment may be able to evenly spread out between your god sis and the boyfriend - ie lighter sentence. Hope your god sis have not made any clumsy confessions during police interogations. Before she say anything to the police - better consult lawyer or else she say somehting dumb - she cannot recant her statement.
Die die your sis also must come out with 80k. But make sure it is right channel and money not go to conman. Or else your efforts would have been in vain.
