Fear of swallowing pills.

Hi guys , i hope someone would really help me with this problem. I used to swallow pills easily , but until one day i choked on a panadol and from then on , i have fear of swallowing pills , can't swallow a pill at all , heart always pump very fast when trying to swallow a pill. always have a fear of gagging and choking. The fear will always come when i try to swallow a pill. I think i have to see a psychologist about this problem. Should i do it? where can i seek help from a psychologist to help me? thanks in advanced.

i know a few ppl with this problem
no biggy. just inform the doc and there are alternatives in liquid form
or pound the pill and dissolve in water and drinkim sure u have no problem swallowing liquids?

I bought a pill cutter at Guardian, expensive at $12.
It cuts pills in half, has a storage chamber, and also a crusher, all in one.
You can crush your pills into powder, mix with water.
For those soft capsules, open them and pour out the powder into water.

some pills are not meant to be cut. Some pills work well inside the digestive track and should not be grind into powdered form. Consult your local pharmacist or doctor first.

Well if you can't swallow pills you'll have to learn to swallow.

yiu can crush panadol into powder n dissolve into water n drink it all up,same as swallowing pills and water.
or more expensive u can get aspirin with effervescent tablets that dissolve into nothing in yiur mouthn when exposed to water.

Tell yourself, when you eat roasted duck or fried chicken wings, after you chew and before you swallow the meat, that piece of meat is around the same size as a pill. If you can swallow your chewed chicken wings, you can swallow the pills. Just keep telling yourself this.

Used to have when i was a kid. Got rid of it when i was around 9 or 10 yrs old.

prepare a cup of milo beside you. After swallowing drink something sweet.

Ahh yes... some pills should only work in your intestines and not the stomach...

lol. didnt know there is such a thing as pill cutter.

Sometimes you need not take the whole pill, you only need half. Thats what the line on some pills are for.
The pill cutter cut has a V slot for the pill, and a blade on the cover comes down to cut it exactly in half.
You can use a knife and aga aga chop the pill into half, of course.

I had this problem too after I tried to swallow a 5 cent coin big pill and choked on it instead.
After that I practise swallowing with candies like Tit Tat and before I swallow, I drink some water to lubricate my throat so the pill can slip in without stucking on a dry throat.
You try a few times and when you can do it without choking again, you'll gain confident to swallow more.

just go to get a pill cutter / spilter- it can cut pill into halves or quarters

i did try to order a pill cup from oralflo , but i don't know why they don't deliver it to singapore.

exactly same category of fear like people who fear putting in contact lens onto the eyeball and fear injection of needle or blood etc. can be overcomed.

but i can put in my contacts lens easily. i think i need to train to swallow pills and overcome my fear. last time i use to swallow easily , there is no reason why i cant do it now! so do i start with a tic tac? -

Try to do more blowing exercise, it helps to open up the throat. -

why not use your hand to just break the pill into 2, save $$

have u heard of enteric coating?
though, that's the only one i know of, cos i used to take pills with an enteric coating
i used to have trouble swallowing pills too
took me like, 5 wasted capsules and a whole lot of gagging before i finally swallowed itbut now i can easily pop three in one go
and even swallow huge gel capsules without having to tilt my head
with just one small mouthful of water i can down... 3-4 big gel capsules?
