@DemonBane : I dont' smoke or drink...but got emotional eat..
@MooKu : thanks for e advice, I know a bout probs with med dependency...or I might even try to cut them out too soon n get even worst..cos I don't like meds..but I thot those in these fields (psych) would know better to help than a counsellor? idk tho..
It depends on the FSC. They mostly charge on a sliding scale, i.e. if your income is higher, you pay a little more. But usually not more than $30-50 per session. Check out the website of your nearest FSC.
Ya, I have been a patient of a psychiatrist before.....
I saw a psychiatrist at the NUH......
Then I was given medication...
I took medication for roughly 1-2 years.....
If you wanna go see a psychiatrist just go......no need to think so much about it....
Go to a psychologist la. Psychiatrist waste money la. You know what the psychiatrist do ah?
Last time my ex gal fren got stress from the boss, went to the psychologist. The stupid doctor just listen and then prescribe drugs to her. Nothing said. Waste money.
Not satisfied, she went to a psychologist, the psychologist listen to her and then give her feedback on how to improve her job situation and communication with her boss. The psychologist even ask me to come and join her counselling as a support partner.
It depends.....it depends on the severity of the problem......
Also it can be combined.....the TS can go to a psychiatrist for medication....and then talk to a psychologist or counsellor for the advices part.....
The main thing of going to psychiatrist is......the ability to get medication.....which does help.....
For example lets say you cannot sleep......you can go talk to someone for advices and lessen your burden....which is true, it is indeed helpful....but if you go to doctor he can give you sleeping pills which forces your body to sleep and enable your body to function normally (sleep)..........it is the same with mental health......you can talk to a psychologist or counsellor.....but the medication can help in that it stabilizes your mental condition physically....

Psychologist cannot prescribe medicine unless is clinical psychologist.
i see a dr who is both a psychologist and psychiatrist. each session is roughly 30mins. normally we spend the first 20 mins talking about my life and issues i face, and the last 10mins to discuss about my medication. you might need to see a few drs before you find one you are comfortable with. sometimes with certain drs they try to lead you into believing or saying certain things, or with some others its just very hard to open up and talk to them, therefore waste of time and money. some medication is expensive, i went to nuh to get zyprexa and its like 600 bucks for one month supply. good thing i am in the us now, so i have insurance to cover.
Dont visit doctors. Take my word for it.
Psychiatrists are a waste of time. They only know how to talk cock, make wild guesses, and prescribe medicine. You be better off talking to a wall.
You know why?
Because ... whats the point? You can have 1,000,000 sessions with a therapist and still feel miserable to death. The fundamental issue that you have STILL REMAINS. Talking to the therapist or taking medication does not resolve anything at all. What the therapist gives is NOT practical help !!
You will only be happy if your problems get resolved !! And it is up to you to find a solution for your problems.
You only visit therapists when you done something wrong and need a medical report to prove that you did it in a fit of insanity. Other than that, they are practially USELESS, except to leech you out of your money.
The best advice is:
Try confiding in the person that is the closest to you. That you feel the most comfortable witth. Your girl/boyfriend. Your best friend.
Because this person not just can offer you comfort and advice, but you have a shoulder to lean on to cry and you can have a nice warm hug.
All these dont cost money and they definitely work better than any therapist session or medicine you can receive.
To TS,
Maybe you can start by sharing your problems here.
We do not know you and could type what you feel like typing.
Sometimes is just letting it out .
Always remember this , A doc can only advise, is up to the person to change or not.
Yeap...get medication is the main aim....I think the medication will really help.....go get it.
Take medication so u get hooked to their medication? It may be good short term. but the long term effects ...... from 0.5mg to 2.5 to 5mg. ;p
Best and economic way is to perhaps seek counsellor to identify inherent problems and seek a more enlightened unmedicated way to stmulate your self to break out from your captivity of negativity.

Have TS tried exercising ? It may help to relief some form of stress....yeap medication will help but dun overdose....
I think TS sufferr from inferiority. Personal grooming will cure everything.
It will bring back your confidence and you will be proud of yourself.
Go see a doc fast ! Dun let your illness worsen....but docs are not cheap....especially if need to see long-term....hope you get well after a few sessions....
If u need to see a specialist, suggest ts go to polyclinic to get a referrer letter, it will bring down the cost.
