Engineer in what?
I have taught NT, NA and Exp classes.
There is often only ONE factor separating all the students in these 3 streams.
"Whether they studied harder when they were at a younger age." (PSLE)
And once they enter their respective streams in secondary school, the 'self-fulfilling prophecy' kicks in. They're lumped together with either 'the cream' or the 'no-hopers'. This makes it especially difficult for those who've (so to speak) 'learned their lesson' and want to study harder to achieve more in their education.
I've had to go down to Cantonment 5 times already, to speak up for 4 different students who needed my help at the police station there. All of them were NT kids.
I've also had the privilege of teaching a young lady who returned to repeat her Sec 3NT year after being expelled. She turned her head on right-ways and ended up being of the top 5 students nationwide in her N(T) levels last year.
I've never been ashamed of any of my NT students. They're bright, fun and have a more selfless side to them than many of the Exp kids I teach.
The ONLY problem I've had with MANY of my NT kids is the LAZINESS that many of them hold onto. (it persists for most until 4 months before their N-levels).
If your friend can get rid of any 'Laziness' he has inside him and pushes himself, then trust me... in a few years time and with hard work, the playing field will be LEVEL.
University degree or not.

You're an educator Hi there~

All roads lead to rome.

The "look down and hurt" matter is not very relevant. When you look up the person who is EM1, Express, JC, Uni, it does not meant the one on top will look down on you. As people always look up, they dont look down. Just like you will not look down on the person who stop at sec2 or N level.
I dont feel right to when student wear uniform and go shopping. They should change as uniform is for school. Suppose this person is nurse, doctor, policeman or SCDF fireman, and he is shopping after work. Dont you feel weird about him?
I do have a bad impression on em3,normal tech, ite student. Nitec2 students are all smoking right after they step out of the campus. They behave no better than ah beng.
I got a friend.
173 for PSLE
Go to N(A) during sec sch days
Scored 9 points for O's Level
Go to Ngee Ann Poly and Gotten a diploma with merit
Now SMU double degree in accountancy + Business with Scholarship
Who say Normal Student cant make it far? i see ex NT student becoming boss and already earning 5 digits.
What is that to be ashamed? In future, all it matters is how much you earn and not really touching much on your education level.

I olso, attached to ITE chua chu kang once, alamak, dude, you go orchard bo jio me ar??
I don't think JC/ uni students will look down on poly/ ITE students, after all, its the 21st century and the younger generation are all quite educated. Its common knowledge that ANYONE can be successful as long as they work hard.
I'm from a JC and I wouldn't look down on them either. Sure, I may be proud of my school but its ONLY because I genuinely like my school, NOT because I feel that my school is more superior than polys/ ITE.
