My dad was diagnosed with diabetes for over 20 years. It should be type 2. Being a diabetic, the only way he could stay fit & healthy is to take the medication and keep up with his doctor appointments.
Here's the problem. He refused to take medication and will drink sweet drinks like there is no tomorrow. Worse, he's a heavy smoker. And he had been hospitalized 3 times. The last time was last year when he a a cut on his leg and the infection was so bad that there was it turn into a big hole. And the doctor said his sugar level is out of control. He almost got his leg amputated.
No matter how or what me & my family try to do to persuade him to take his medicines, he just wont listen. Instead he raise his voice at us, just like how he had always been doing to his family all these years.
After being discharge from hospital, he will start his medication but will stop after few months. He look really sick without the medicines. The most recent discharge, doctor even told him he needs to inject himself with insulin twice daily. That insulin thingy was a sign that his condition has worsen since he dont need that last time.
I read about how diabetes can actually kill you if you fail to control it. Somehow, diabetes wont kill you instantly but will tortures you for years before it finally take your life. My late grandma (my dad's mum) was a diabetic too and she died from diabetes complications.
My family have done all we could to help my dad but he wouldnt help himself. Since now he stop his medication again, we expect that he will land himself in hospital again soon. And I dont know how much longer he can last. Not to be rude but its a fact. He is coming 65 yrs this year. No medication, drink sugary stuffs daily and smokes heavily just make it even worse.
go search for alternate cures for diabetes, the pharma companies will never find a cure since they make far more money if you buy insulin from them over a lifetime.
i thought there is no cure for diabetes?
go to this website www.hsionline.com
there are cures for many ''incurable'' illnesses, but since pharma companies can't make money from those cures, they say there's none!
ask the doctor for pills instead of insulin, maybe he will take the medication. consult a dietitian on his carbohydrate intake. if he likes sweet drinks, u can buy those atificial sweetener to add in

1) Ask yr mum to cook meal that contain less salty or sweet.
2) Even coffee or tea or whatever hot drinks / cold drinks, reduce sugar intake.
3) Dont buy packet drinks back home.
4) Tell yr dad do you want your life or die fast?
5) Family support is vital towards your dad.
6) Go for alternative cures, conventional drug companies only keep on doing stuff that only serve to solve the symptoms, not the root cause. [that's why they earn so much every year from mass-market medication/drugs which arent very expensive to begin with]
wait till when he is asleep, then inject him with the insulin.
if it is insulin pills, then crush the pill and mix it with some water and tell him it's 100plus. nice to drink.
My family have been eating brown rice ever since my Dad got diabetes. Less sugar level and nutritious. Some may not get use to it. Hope this help a bit.

If dun eat rice like me, better still. I only eat mee, mee sua, mee pok, meehood and mee sotong
My dad had debetes too. But he passed away last year from pancreas cancer. The pancreas is related to diabetes, i think it's becos it's the organ responsible for insulin the body needs. Pancreas cancer is a deadly killer, it does not show any symptoms until the very late stage. When my father discovered the cancer, it was already too late. He passed on 2 months after he was diagnosed with the cancer. Pls educate your dad, such things can lead to cancer. Ask him to think of his loved ones and family. take care...
fm the sound of it, yr dad seems to hv given up on himself liao... he doesn't have the motivation to change his habits for the better...
your family has grandchildren ? does he have something he loves or looks forward to ?
humans are motivated by fear and pleasure....
i think he's got something a lot of people do.. they refuse to face reality and continue to think they are indestructible...
get the whole family together, and talk to him nicely... firmly but nicely... use the example of his foot almost being amputated...
then show him the advancements in medical science to treat diabetes and how it can be overcome...
and show him that his actions are hurting the people who love him... and the people he loves...
hopefully he'll wake up

Ask him if he took medication and ask him when he pass away, what kind of funeral he needs.
If he scolds you, you tell him, you need to ask him when he is around. Since he is not taking medication, he won't be around for long.
Ya, need to ask him earlier, see what he needs below, I got friends doing funeral parlour business, if want, can PM me in advance, got 20% discount, go tell your dad this good news.

My condolescene, please take care yourself, diabetes can be genetic, those whose parents or grandparents had diabetes, you need to care for yourself, prevention is better than cure. Singapore childrens are so spoilt by sugar, the food n drink here are so sweet, full of unnatural sugar. In my country, when youngs, the school teachers and parents already teach us about sugar, we only eat porridge with veges, drink tea only, no canteen, and also we are only allow to go city once a month, and most we do there is buy sugarless bubble tea and papaya milkshake, to keep warm, we take sour prunes, we are famous in that, those night stall foods are for tourist only.
If you look at the obesity stage of singaporeans and Taiwanese, we can get a shock of your life, 7 out of 10 singaporean are obese comparing to 1 in 10 taiwanese, so when I first landed in singapore, i thot i come to a fat world.

actually, from what i know, he'll be around for a long time... at least most of him..
he'll slowly be minus his foot, maybe toes, fingers, hand, arm.. things like that as they become gangrenous and have to be amputated...
that part would be scarier to some than death
For some Men, they dun mind dying miserably, but their ego must uphold. Guess TS's Dad is of such character.

it depends what hits him first. If lucky some diabetic coma can be fatal, maybe a chronic arrest can kill too. If unlucky (most were), they will most likely lose their limbs and suck on pipes or lose eyes.
Under such circumstances, it is better to die within 2 months than suffer for years.
old ppl prefer to settle their problems then let the children suffer esp money. They would rather die early than suffer for long periods . The medicine they consumed is to prolong their life only. And this medicine does not come cheap. The only way to solve quickly is by death.
Well, if that's the way your dad is....then what to do......Their generation of thinking is different from yours. You just have to continue footing his bills. We can't choose our dads and mums.
Hi All,
I recently brough in this product Milagro Tea. (www.milagroasia.com). RElatives were taking it and I saw the improvements myself. Plus, Dad was diagnosed with diabetes from day one and from day one, he took the tea. As such, he has never taken any meds for his diabetes and he is living a normal life like anyone of us.
If any one is interested to give it a try, please feel free to drop me an email at [email protected].
As there is a cost attached to the tea, they will be a limited number we can give out.

Diabetes is manageable.

and if managed, the medication isn't expensive too...
what the father is doing now is being a dumbass which will cost the people a lot more in terms of physical, mental, emotional and financial pain in the long run
