brother owes loanshark

its not the 1st time the loan shark had been harassing my family already.
it was my brother,he's only 20 this year, started betting on online soccer bets website etc etc
at first , he won a little , which got him really into gambling afterwards.
then , when he started losing , he borrowed money from poly friends, gaming friends, relatives and whoever he could thought of to pay his debt off from the soccer bets website.
of course he went to my parents b4 them.
expected , my parents gave him a harsh warning , cane him etc etc
back then he was only 18.
once , he owe loan shark about 30k++ and he stole my mum's jewellery and rolex watch from my dad and bottles and bottles of wine to turn into cash in return to the loan shark. that makes my parents totally give up on him and my dad even fainted when he found out about this. nevertheless, when we thought everything was over, he did it again...
over the past 2 years , he didnt change but he got bolder and bet even more like 1k 2k 5k on a single match , and when he lose , he go to my dad thinking that my dad is his ATM when my dad only holds a job that pays him 2k a month. counselling was done but he just wont change!!!!
and just last week , he move to my grand's hse to live because he dont wanna stay at home anymore.
thinking that all was alright , a phone call called our hse again to look for my brother and threaten to set fire on our hse if we failed to pay up tonight..
dad called home and said brother owe $35k again along with 20 sets of loan shark....
dad was firm not to pay anymore because he really do not have the $$ already and if we paid now and my bro borrow again , the cycle just repeats itself...
dad was so helpless and keep asking me what should we do next? why did our family end up like this? but i couldn't answer his question ...
all we did was to report to the police and cover plastic sheet on our main door..
im really very helpless now, facing the main door open to do a lookout while doing my project work late every night till 3 or 4 am ... but how long can this last??

ur brother lost a total of 70 over k right????.................Probably went to play with illigal bookie that gave him credits to bet and entice him to bet more and more..since settlement is like everyweek or every 2 weeks......
i wonder who introduced him to this...very evil.....
will the police invetigate and catch these illigal bookies??

never pay!!! the moment you pay them, you finance them to do the same things to others... without the money, they can never last because if everyone dun pay, it does not make sense to continue the business... only when business making money, they continue this vicious cycle...

the total amount from the very start to today is way more than 70k , this time round it was said around 35k . yup he started playing with illegal soccer websites and owe them $$ , to cover up the debt he went to loan shark to pay the debt he owe from these bookie , and thats how the debt grow overnight..
he's out from army alr , 21* this year..
if we dont pay , those LS will keep harassing my family , really dont know what to do le sigh..

police really cmi , when to report about this but they just file a report and didnt say anything at all :(
dad gonna install cctv soon , but it wont solve the problem , theres 20 groups of loan shark lei , sigh...

All you can do is report police, make it big like into newspaper or something before the police will do anything... You see ah, they send 3 patrol cars to catch people like my friends and I playing soccer at basketball court, but they cannot catch the loansharks, very funny right? 3 patrol cars to catch teens playing soccer on basketball court, shows they have enough people, so definitely manpower is not the issue, the main issue is whether they want to do work or just slack only...

this loanshark topic has been on the radio recently, people called in say they give police all the leads such as telephone numbers etc, but police never follow up or track down the leads and never revert to the family involved... the other thing is if they really sincered in catching the crooks, instead of sending 3 patrol cars to catch people playing soccer at basketball court, they could just send 1 patrol car with police in civilian clothes and guard random families so the moment those loansharks come, just arrest them... funny, come to think of it really funny, 3 patrol cars catch teens playing soccer at basketball court but no people catch loansharks, those loansharks run faster izzit, cannot chase them?

Report to police again and again.
If possible, bring your bro to police station and reports the details (LS) to police.
That is the only way you can do now.

why dont you call the gambling addiction hotline and ask them how they normally tackle such cases.

1. Don't help your brother pay his debts. His debts, his responsibility. Force him to pay those debts with his own money.
2. Report your brother to the police for his theft of your parents' jewellery and Rolex.
Call it tough love. Behind bars, he can't gamble, and he can't borrow money.

Owe ls lots of money. Borrow from uncles, aunties, cousins.
To a point where his father force to sell their flat to pay off the ls.
Now his father 70 yr old, cannot retire, drive taxi.
See how pityful it is.

When family is involved, it's hard not to get sucked in.
Especially in Asia, where people are very family-centric.
However, if you pay, you enable more of his unwanted behavior.
There are people you can save, and there are those you can't.
Your brother must learn his lessons the hard way, some times paying for it with his life- time or even his life.
You and your family must prepare yourself mentally for the worst, else everyone will eventually lose their mind if this debt/gambling issue continue.

Yer father go post advert in newspaper - Say he disown his son. Name: So and So.
Oso say, whatever the son owe, the father does not wish to pay his debts bcause he is no longer related n no longer live ere.
Then take the newspaper advert and paste it on yer front door for all the loan shark to see.
DISOWN HIM NOW !

my dad thought of disowning already , but i know he's just saying only his heart too soft le.. furthermore bro is the oldest and the only guy in the family ..
my parents suggested to sell and move house , but u tell me who wanna buy this unlucky house?
if we nvr pay up , what is going to happen next? 20 groups of LS lei , not 1 ...
this thing is causing us to be so tensed up and paranoid and whenever a person walk pass our house ( corner unit ) we got so worried and will go out and take a look.
will suggest those helplines to my dad soon.
and they did it again this morning when im alone at home , i smelled paint and walked out of the house i saw black paint and phoned for the police...
i dont know what are they going to do next , sigh..

Number 1, you need professional aid to help your brother deal with gambling problem.
Number 2, you need professional aid to deal with the loansharks which you had done. Your brother must surrender to the police and provide details how he contacted these loansharks so that the appropriate actions can be taken by the authorities.
As for the rest of the comments on disowning, killing your brother, yadda yadda, these are keyboard martyrs who are most effective only in office typing e-mails of hate, chain e-mails and talk cock. They themselves offer nothing in return to your problem. Nor are they empowered to aid your plight whatsoever.

Settle all outstanding loan. Then disown the son. Tell all loanshark, tat if the bastard son go n borrow any more money in future, father won't help. Simple wat, I am sure all the loanshark come banging at yer door already left all their phone numbers n biz cards.
