I feel very pressured to earn money. im 21 years old already, I have a diploma but now currently a recruit earning a pathetic $420 a month. I have to serve my country for 2 years. My GPA score is not good enough to go to any local uni.
I come from a middle class family, money is not exactly an issue but I feel so pressured that girls who start working at my age already earning 1.5k or maybe even 2k++
Anyway, thinking about all these gives me a headache. Anyone going through what i'm feeling or experienced it care to share how to overcome this?
dun need sad. every fit male have to go through 1, aim for officer or sergeant, higher pay. or moonlight.
Girls nowadays are spoilt brats. They can be naked in public and nobody can stop them.Don't be like them. They refuse to get pregnant.Puiii.
420 dollars can buy a good handphone already. But you don't need a good handphone because if you really need one you will use it in the talk zone in Chua Chu Kang library.Think about it.

You have no say in whether to serve NS or not, so just serve it and take the time to think about your future career. You may also take the time to consider whether you will want to continue studying in private unis or not.
There is no point in keep thinking about how the girls are outside working and earning more than you right now. You should take your mind off this by focusing on other stuffs such as your army training, as well as the things I mentioned above.
When I was a recruit (in 2002), I was earning $240 per month.
And while inflation has increased prices since then, the rise in NS allowances have more than compensated. $240 to $420 is nearly double. Don't tell me that the consumer price index has doubled since 2002.
If the CPI is too hard for you to understand, then figure this out: has the price of chicken rice doubled in the years from 2002 to 2010?
Oh, and I was in the very last batch to serve 2 1/2 years.
Take it like a man and suck it up.
Dude, you are making almost double of what I made when I was your age, and a recruit, and I had to serve 2 and the 1/2 years, not like you farking brats only serve 2 years and still making a load of noise about it.
By the way, you'll appreciate what NS has done for you when you get a real job, and that the girls don't have that. Suck it up you pussy.
just serve your NS.
if you cannot make it to uni, want blame what? govt ah?
Life is an eternal journey and never a destination. What you are going through is only temporary. Tell yourself that there are better things to come when you pass through this phase in life. Stop comparing yourself with others! Your life is yours alone to live.
TS needs to change his mindset. So what if you are not Chelsea or Man United steamrolling everyone? So what if you are only Blackpool? Upsets happen every now and then, don't they? Toughness in mental attitude is what TS needs. Mental toughness will be the key to winning life's battles! Go reflect.
go learn a skill that you can depend on for the rest of your life
find yourself a mentor
go for upgrading course?
Bo bian... you will pass this stage soon.
Meanwhile, think of where you should head for. Is it studies or to the working society?
If you wanna work, try to apply for jobs 1 month before you ORD so that your "unemployed status" will be shorter.
wah!!! lim peh recruit only $130 per month....
when i was a recruit, my pay was $240 a month too. When i promoted to private, there was a $10 increment! Fantastic, wasn't it?
Just shut the fuck up and serve la. Yours only 2 years. And if your grades cmi, just enroll in SIM when you grad. I've got friends who earn the same pay as grads from the other three unis right after graduation. See the job market and your god sent luck.
Sorry idiot recruit, that is not your pay but a reimbursement.

just accept that life isn't fair compared to other males in sg who doesn't serve ns, and whatever you do in the future you'll be 2 years behind them

i suspect ts isn't complaining about low pay, but how he's unable to stand on an equal footing with his peers (esp dating)
in other words, if other girls his age earns $420 a month too he'll be perfectly fine with it =D
i could be wrong though
Also, see it this way: you are not the only one.
If you think it's unfair to get $420/month and serve two years of your life, then what about all the other mothers' sons in your section, platoon, company, and BMTC? They get $2k allowance and can quit at any time ah?
Why compare yourself to the girls? Shouldn't you be comparing yourself to guys?

Equal footing?
Like I said, his peers in his section, platoon, company, and BMTC are on the same footing as he is.
And dating? He doesn't have to fight with girls to date guys, no? Unless he's 302, of course.....
And if girls are earning more, then, well, other recruits are also earning $420, aren't they?

I think TS doesn't have balls lah...Hence want to compare with girls.

unfortunately girls don't date recruits exclusively, hence the pressure
stressed???? hmm... which dictionary u using?
Originally posted by Zweiz:unfortunately girls don't date recruits exclusively, hence the pressure
Which is why I say: he should just compare himself to the other recruits around him. They all experience the same pressures, no?
After all, we were all recruits at some point in time, no?
if want to compare, must compare guys to guys.
so you compare sinkies against FT. NS for us, and jobs for them, true story.
