.. Bnuta has the money to drive a WRX? He owns a tofu shop but he can afford a WRX Sti and a TRD tuned racing engine! I mean if you get that much money, shouldn't you be doing big business or at least something better?! Or does bunta used his Trueno last time and won a big amount of money from the people he used to race..
So, where did the money came form? -
well , the anime did say tt he gets paid for driving his friends round in his 86 after he wins a race , more ever...........he's a miser , so frm small things he saves from his character , i think he can afford it........and btw , i think he did not buy his TRD engine.....he said in the anime tt some unknown person sent him.....and the WRX was a 2nd hand....

Bunta.... i has being making tofu for years.... and he really saves money lyk mad.. maybe he robs a bank to buy his WRX and 86??

I think what Bunta did was to modify the car himself. It would take a good mechanic to know what he is doing. Assuming Bunta is a really good mechanic and since he is also one hell of a driver, he would be able to know what to modify to compensate or enhance his driving skills.
It wouldn't be too expensive if he knows where to get his parts or do repairs and maintenance by himself. Also a previous post mentioned the WRX is 2nd hand. -
Bunta did purchased the AE101 TRD Engine after Takumi crushed his AE86 Engine. minor spoliers to the saga.
with good financial planning hawker centre food sellers like a typical chicken rice uncle also drives bmws and benzes despite their 'low class' vocation!
so do not judge a bunta by his tofu shop!
supposed bunta saves, invest and spend wisely from young he would have build up a good safety nest of money to cushion takumi in case of bad times. bunta with all his wisdom would surely known that it is not advisable to spend all his earnings in car tuning and maintanance even though it is his passion and hobby. and regarding the AE101 TRD engine, bunta said that takumi also help pay for it since he had delivered tofu since young and the wages had been saved in his name (a glimpse of his financial foresight)and being both a good father (and mother), he gave the 86 to takumi in stages and only got a second hand wrx when takumi graduates and started working. finally to quote bunta himself when takumi offered his savings to bunta in compensation to the blown AE86.. (i am not that poor) from second stage.

do we actually see bunta driving his WRX in the anime?? cause i watched stages 1-3 & extra stage and i still havn't seen him drving around in a WRX.
And y would he get a 4WD???
I thought if he bought a new car it would be a Toyota Supra or sumthing? -
