I belive the GDB is 6 gear ratios.
The tune really doesnt matter unless probably you are in the top 5 world rankings then it will make a differnce (milli secs) to your time.
Find the tune that you like most and find that it suits your driving style the best. Then tat tune is the best tune for you. ANd during parts change, find parts that are made of carbon fibre (black) to lighten your car. that should help your car perform better.
THe GDB is hard to drive as you need to learn how to maximise all 6 gears. If you have not invested too much into it already, give the GC8 or even Bunta's WRX a try. they are 5 gears and easier to control your shifting procedure. However, if you can master the 6 gear ratios for your GDB, then you will be one heck of a driver.

I can't beat Bunta with this car no matter how many times i tried...
I have beaten Bunta wif RX7 and DC2 but not this subaru...whats wrong?

The slow acceleration could probably be due to the time you shift gears.
Probably happens in the 4th gear when you shift too early (ie: too low a rpm at 3rd then shift to 4th gear).
The GC8 is a good car and depending on how many bunta's you have defeated, it may get hard.
i have 26 stars (bunta mode) on akagi and till date, have not gotten further than that with my dc2. i am sure the game is designed such that all cars can defeat bunta 30 times for all tracks. some cars maybe harder, some easier.
so perhaps for your GC8, learn to master the timing of your gear shifting and also, try not to bump the walls or guard rails and you should be ok. -
i has 1 GDB tune b turnin quite gd.. it can add speed in turnin(aiya dun knw how 2 say)

Hmm sorri i didn't say i am playing intial D 1 not 2...pai seh...and the subaru is in auto gear so how can i shift to early leh...?

It's mentioned in kohanson's earlier post "Secret Moves and Tips of Initial D Arcade revealed". Just push the gear knob forward.
The GC8 actually has a good acceleration though it won't reach top speed as fast as some of the other cars. The engine sounds funny, I agree but it is also quite loud. Change gear whenever you hear that the engine is dragging so you don't have to keep looking at the meter. Basically it just sound very high pitch. It will also be cool if you can perfect the tires screeching at starting.
Since the GC8 is a 4WD car, all 4 wheels grip the road and you can achieve a better acceleration during a turn. But if you use this advantage wrongly, you're going to hit the barriers. This advantage also helps in tracks that have uneven road surfaces. -
the last time i checked, HMV still have ver1 machine. only 2.
