how many different engines are there and what are their differences?Originally posted by HENG@:only the Mazda RX-series cars have rotary engines.
wah Shit. this one how to answer? u mean things like NA, turbo, Supercharged, or u mean engine displacement or u mean engine configs etc? pls dun say all. if u say all then I can talk for a whole day n not cover 5% of all engine types.Originally posted by coldzero:how many different engines are there and what are their differences?

for starters, lets just say there are the rotary engines, and the non rotary engines.Originally posted by coldzero:o..i didn't knew that..
in a game where FC is not a problem, yes. in real life, this engine can be a headache to maintain. Refer to this article on the RX-8:Originally posted by ahphilz:Well, I'm surprised by all these positive responses. Thank you.
To answer some of the queries:
1) I have no "home ground", though I frequent the Toa Payoh Entertainment Centre arcade. I think the home ground thingy is not a problem.
2) In fact, all are welcome to join. But I understand that the better players are already in IDAS Teams already. But I suppose that if they are interested, the team will still be open to them as associate members? (Associate members meaning they provide the top class challenges within the team and providing the guidance to the newbie members, but they are not obliged to represent the team. This would allow them to maintain their loyalties with their current teams)
3) Rotary Engines, also known as the Wankel Engines, are actually a different kind of engines. Normal engines work with the up-down motion of pistons, but the rotary engines work with the rotation principle using a triangular shaped piston. These engines can be NA or Turbo. From my understanding, the RX-7s are turbocharged, while the RX-8 is a NA. This breed of engines are favoured as they provide a more balanced setup to a car, and run more smoothly as compared to normal cars.
I have to agree that the Rotary Engines are in real life "heavy drinkers"... and a headache (possibly heartache) to maintain. But it's the performance of the Rotaries that makes people stand up and take notice. There are always pros and cons behind everything. I suppose that is 1 drawback of the Rotaries..Originally posted by HENG@:in a game where FC is not a problem, yes. in real life, this engine can be a headache to maintain. performance wise, u can't actually call it a 1.3l. Last I remembered the rules set by SMSA states that rotary engined cars have to multiply their engine capacity by a factor of 1.7 i think. The point is that the characteristics of a rotary engine IS that u get high bhp from a seemingly small capacity, so in a sense there is nothing to marvel about. Until they start proucing something like 500bhp from a 1.3l rotary engine without an form of forced induction, getting about 230bhp is nothing miraculous really. Take a look at these NA engines, like the 1.8l from the ITR DC5 putting out 220 bhp, or the BMW's M3 putting out 343bhp with 3.2l. The rotary engine in the RX-8 is equivalent to a normal engine of 2.2l, putting out about 230 is not really very remarkable. The NA 2l engine in the S2000 puts out 240bhp. Anyways, the thing about it is that it is a very highly stressed engine, and hence drinks lots of petrol. FC, unfortunately, can be as low as about 6km/l, and there is a severe lack of torque at low RPMs. having to rev to high RPMs to get torque would equate to using more petrol, hence worsening your FC.Originally posted by ahphilz:I have to agree that the Rotary Engines are in real life "heavy drinkers"... and a headache (possibly heartache) to maintain.
